Amazing area learn the legends about the fairies and tell the stories to the children about Queen Maeve the warrior queen who may be buried at the top of Knocknarea. The mountain itself is some 324 m 1073 ft high and actually looks like a huge cairn (old burial place for people of notoriety) It is possible to climb and may take just over an hour depending on your fitness level but it is recommended you take plenty of water, good walking shoes and appropriate coat and remember it may be ok walking up there you also have to walk back

    Fantastic hike.

Fantastic hike. We ended up climbing both sides of the hill. It can be an easy hike if you do one side or a little more challenging if you climb both sides. The views on each side are distinctly different. One side is forest and the other is wide open country. The forest side has many wooden steps and the country side is dirt and rocks. Loved it!! Wonderful views from the top.
