I stayed for 2 nights in an upstairs room. I had a lovely view over an internal garden. the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Meals were fabulous- though if you are staying for 2 or more nights I suggest you let them know you are happy to eat traditional Japanese fair or they might "westernise" it a bit for you. My guess is they offer a limited menu and didn't want to repeat it for me - but I would have been delighted if they had ;-)
I caught the bus from Takayama.

Serene, authentic, and classy, this place has it all. It is criminally good value for the money. The keiseki dinner and breakfast were out of this world, probably the best meals I’ve ever had in my two trips to Japan (I’m fussy). A particular shout out to a staff member called Bhesh, a lovely Nepalese man who was extremely kind and helpful, I hope the hotel is rewarding him well for his excellent work.
Located in the famous Okuhida hot-spring area, Nakadaya offers relaxing indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths. The traditional Japanese-style rooms feature Yukata robes and a seating area by the window....

If you're a fan of backpacker hostels, you'll definitely love this place. You can take a bus directly from Takayama City, and there's a bus stop right in front of the guesthouse. It’s renovated from an old inn, offers a standard Japanese tatami space with traditional Japanese bedding. It's compact, cozy and clean, with shared bathrooms and toilets on the first floor, and plenty of board games in the public area. While most accommodations in Japan provide toiletries, they're not provided here in line with environmental policies, but you can purchase them at the reception if needed.
The two young hosts are very friendly and enthusiastic, fluent in English and Chinese, with plenty of travel experiences to chat about. They serve simple delicious meals and offer many sightseeing recommendations.
You can take a bus to the nearby Hirayu Onsen, where you'll find fantastic hot spring experiences and delicious restaurants. You can also catch a bus to Kamikochi, which isn't far away.
Guest House Raicho offers accommodation in Norikura Kogen in Chubu Sangaku National Park. Mt.

Staff both professional & caring
Enthusiastic, good english, nice recommendations, helpful... can't see what I do different about the service.
The place shares my value: sustainable, collaboration, flexible, natural, ...
Free onsens, renting equipments, working space, guitare, chimney, starry night, large bed, parking, breakfast, coffee ...
Could go on & on with praises.
Might be my favorite place I've stayed at since I got to Japan 2 months ago.
