To see Plitvice national park without throngs of tourists, you must be there early in the morning. We chose to stay one night in the park instead of getting up super early and driving from Split and we are so glad we found apartment Afrodita. Everything else in the area resembles a camping lodge, which is fine given that you're in a national park. But Afrodita goes in a different direction and offers modern, luxurious accommodations. First, the master bed is easily the most comfortable bed we've slept on in years of travelling. We felt well rested after a long drive from Split and ready to hike the park the next day. As the pictures show, the bathroom is over-the-top extravagance for a one-bedroom apartment, and it is stocked with all kinds of necessities that a traveler might need. While small, the kitchen/dining/living room is clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. And the washer/dryer units worked very well. We were able to get two loads of laundry done in a few hours. There isn't much around the area, given that you are inside a national park, but it was also very nice to have a little market right outside the door and a pizza place a 2 minute drive away. Then, when we woke up and were ready to hike, we had only a five or six minute drive to the park entrance.
