The location was beautiful as it’s in the heart of the jungle. There is lots of wildlife and they have very cute puppies which Mira takes wonderful care of. The young man working there was also very nice and helpful. The room we were moved to was wonderful and quite comfortable and private. The next morning they helped arrange a taxi for us which was great as we had a long journey.

If you are visiting Kataragama, I strongly recommend The Grand Tamarind (TGT). The room was big, the linen was exquisite, the breakfast was delicious and big, and the staff everywhere were friendly and most professional. The location of TGT is strategic being so close to the Dēvālē and Kiri Vehera, and a short drive from it we were able to visit Yala Sanctuary and Situlpawwa rock temple. If I visit Kataragama again, TGT will be my choice for accommodation.

I thought it was a different place to go for Safari.
I thought it was a different place to go for Safari. But, almost all vehicles come from Tissa for Safari pickup so it doesn't really matter if you book a room in Tissa or Katharagama for the Safari.

Could not see Perahara, we could not stay after 11.30pm.
Could not see Perahara, we could not stay after 11.30pm. If our Hotel room was close Temple we would have come in time of Perahera.
Could not enjoyed the journey, very disappointing since the Room was 2Km away from Kataragama Town and temple , no access to outside choice food , had to starve until we reached KataragamaTown.
Food and items were sold at uncontrollerable price.
For example-Perera and Sons - selling prices below
Fish rolls- 150
Fried Rice - 750/- quantity very less than side plate and a small drum stick piece chicken with least flesh.
Nestea - Rs 120/=
Lunch - Rs 520/= very very small quantity.
All bills are available with me as proof if necessary.
Surprisingly to know a very reputed food caterers such as PERERA And Sons exploiting selling least quantity food at exorbitant prices compared to Colombo prices to Temple Pilgrims visitors, striving to exist due to economic crisis with no though and concerned to the Poor and needy.
At a Pilgrimage area, such as Kataragama, the business rich, could have treated the mo have visitors in a compromise way, selling at reasonably low price or served as Dansal.
Their were visitor sharing an incompletely served fried rice plate some were begging at the entrance.
This is the way GOD FEARING PEOPLE behave in business concerns at Festival period .
GOVMT need to do something valuable to address the needs of the Pilgrim visitors comming from all ends of the country Sri Lanka.
Could not fulfill the needs we went to Kataragama due exorbitant accommodation and food price.

Kataragama temple in Kataragama, Sri Lanka, is a temple...
Kataragama temple in Kataragama, Sri Lanka, is a temple complex dedicated to Buddhist guardian deity God Kataragama and Hindu War God Murugan. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and the Vedda people. Kataragama deviyo is a deification of the legendary king Mahasena, who is born as a Bodhisattva. According to legendary history, Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya was built by King Dutugemunu around 160 years B.C. in fulfilment of a vow to defeat King Elara in battle. It was endowed with a large extent of land by King Dutugemunu for its maintenance and subsequent monarchs did likewise. Kataragama is a multi-religious sacred town. Despite the differences of caste and creed, many Sri Lankans show great reverence to God Kataragama. They honour him as a very powerful deity and beg divine help to overcome their personal problems or for success in business enterprises, etc., with the fervent hope that their requests will be granted. They believe that God Kataragama exists and is vested with extraordinary power to assist those who appeal to him with faith and devotion in times of distress or calamity.
Humbhaha is a great place to chill out. The place borders Yala (jungle rules), yet at
a walking distance from Kataragama. For nature lovers it is a true paradise, animals (wild and domesticated) are everywhere. The hosts Christine and Fernando are amazing. They can make out of strangers a group of good friends. They are truly good spirits in this place.
They offer good meals and drinks at reasonable local prices. They also organised safari in Yala for us. Humbhaha is defintly the place not be missed out once you're in the area.
Place itself is real. Perfectly blended with the nature. Here it's like a getaway from outside world to calm, find connection with nature and peace within. Waking up to a bird alarm, having morning bath in the Gem river or swimming pool & seeing wildlife all around and just enjoying..What else you need? So much love put into this place you can feel that all over.
And the food. Wow. One of the best Sri Lankan cuisines I've eaten in the country. Best Coffee there for sure.
Thank You for everything, see you soon!
The host family is very nice. The young daughter speak a very good english and looks eager to train it and talk about their culture and traditions). The food I had was really good and they also greeted me with a fresh welcome juice. They let me help and Watch the dinner making and it was very pleasant.
The rooms are big, very clean and Probably recently renewed (the a/c system seemed pretty new).
The area is out of the city centre, but it is ist to get there in 20 minutes by walk.
This is one of the most unique hotels I’ve ever stayed in, and you can spend quite a while wandering the property and looking at all the quirky artwork. I would highly recommend staying in for dinner one night as the food was exceptionally delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful too! They organized our safari ride as well as Tuk Tuks into town.
The rooms are a bit on the rustic side, but it adds to the fun experience!
Awesome stay close to the one entrance to Yala. The owners helped us organize a full day safari with packed breakfast bags and lunch. Very friendly people working here!
Rooms are comfortable with nice beds and well working AC. It feels like living in the jungle with monkeys often spotted in the trees around the hotel.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff, very willing to help and go beyond their own schedule to make sure everything went well. We went to Kataragama only for the safari i Yala, and the manager helped us set up things. The rooms also had ac which is nice, and the hotell offered laundry service.
Excellent place. Frendly staffs. Owner very helpful & mange property more than other places around kataragama. Pool osumum. Food & beverages delicious. Large free car park. Safari tour safe & more hours. Clean rooms & sround. Thanks.
The staff was amazing and very kind! They arranged the best birthday dinner for my boyfriend.
The rooms are clean and modern, with a really beautiful view! The food is really good as well.
I definitely recommend staying here!
Wonderful rooms, sparkling clean, have everything you might need. Owners offered us fruit and tea. Special thanks for the last minute safary arragement (and letting my husband drive a jeep, which was a highlight of his trip)))
It was a good place to stay and I personally enjoyed the outdoors. Beds were comfortable and clean. It was just 1 km from the town and parking was free so everything was good. The owners were sweet and they communicated well.
Good staff and really kind owners. They helped us for safari and full box of breakfast provided during Safari. Also, they let us shower after safari even though it was after checkout time. Spacious rooms.
