Rooms dirty, security is a 10 cent latch, restaurant is lousy. Very hot - fan was too small and too weak. Pool and bar both good. Rooms cheap, but certainly get no more than you pay for.

The landscaping is super pretty at the property. The pool is very well-maintained and clean. The owners are friendly and very nice, they provided what we needed during the stay and beyond. The porch seating is nice and convenient right by our room. We enjoyed having coffee by the porch. The breakfast was great too!

Quiet neighborhood, baked onto a field with farm animals. Lovely pool, which was very welcome with the hot temperature outside. Close walk to town or to the beach. There was several grocery stores in the area. "Soda's" were are favorite eating places. There was a great variety offering local dishes and gelanti. The manager was very helpful.

We loved the silence, the spaciousness of the rooms equipped with all comforts, the veranda where a rich breakfast prepared by the hosts with cake and fruit was served.
Last but not least, the possibility of a yoga class in the morning which Federica leads with professionalism and care. Highly recommended

The accommodation was clean and the room had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable and the room was only a short walk from the pool and restaurant. Breakfast was delicious. A plate of fresh fruit with coffee, followed by a choice of cooked breakfasts was sufficient to keep us going. The staff were lovely, always smiling and happy to help with anything. The restaurant served delicious meals using locally caught fish and the brownie is the best we have tasted. The hotel sits between 2 lovely beaches that are easy to access and don't get crowded. There is a lot of wildlife around and the hotel is visited regularly by howler monkeys, motmots and iguanas. The hotel is a nice distance from Samara to avoid the hustle and bustle but near enough to walk into the town for a meal or shopping.

Well... I had booked two nights and ended up staying an extra day at this well-run and relaxed place in Carrillo.
Vincent and his family gave us a warmly welcome and made our stay very pleasant. Their homemade breakfast is exquisite with the panqueques and jams far above anything (You must try it)
The room is nicely decorated and very confortable and has a private terrasse for breakfast, the garden is beautiful, the place is very quiet, and the Carrillo beach is just 350 meters away.
But what this place makes really that special are the hosts themselves, they are so friendly and always took time to talk to us although they had a lot of things to manage, they helped us whenever we needed.
We'll certainly be back!

Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach.
Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach. There are many other beaches nearby. It has quite a few restaurants and cafes to choose from. Lots of great fish. Prices are "reasonable" by comparison with some fancier locations along the coast, but all prices in US dollars are high for Canadians.
Just two hours from Liberia airport, this town has a laid back feel. Not sure how long that will last.

Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Samara. The staff (Cedric and Beatrix) at this property are all great! They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Las Perilitas is one of the best hotels in Samara. The best hotel I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Costa Rica. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. Pura-Vida.
It really doesn’t get much better than this in Samara especially for the price. The most amazing friendly staff. All the gifts they give for staying makes it feel that much more special. Included breakfast is super convenient and makes the room price cheaper when you consider that you’ll spend $20-30 as a couple on the same breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Lots of seating for beach chilling. The bar is very creative and high quality use of ingredients. The dinner serving staff is so professional and knowledgeable,
We had a room with a separate bedroom and a kitchen, bed was comfortable, good hot water and pressure in the shower, we couldn't get the hot plate to work but there was an electric frying pan so no problem. The pool was really good with lots of chairs and umbrellas. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach and the hotel has chairs and umbrellas to use free of charge. We didn't have their breakfast we made our own, there was salt, pepper, cooking oil, coffee and a coffee maker. We had parking. Great value hotel!
Cozy hostel in a great location in the centre of Sámara and close to the beach, and within walking distance to everywhere else you might need. Very nice staff and clean and comfortable rooms, big and well equipped communal kitchen and a nice seating space. Fast WiFi and a typical Costa Rican soda restaurant attached to the hostel complete the services. There's also a laundry service but I didn't actually need to use it so cannot comment on speed/quality of that.
We had a room on the 1st floor, with a balcony . Sitting there felt like being in the jungle! Jammi and the 2 male staff were friendly and helpful. 5 to 10 minute drive in to Samara for restaurants, shops, medical centre etc. Jammi provides pasta or fish dinner if you don't want to go out in the evening. Same sort of price as restaurants.
Beach not as pretty as many in Costa Rica but wide and probably good for families.
Paddling pool on site.
Free parking
The hut is owned by a person of European descent which may be the reason why the usual drawbacks of accommodations in Costa Rica were absent here: There were no loose water taps, non-functional power outlets or the like; everything was well maintained and selected with a great love for details. The hut is best equipped, cozy and in the middle of the jungle. The other reviewers did not exaggerate: You really can watch the monkeys while doing the dishes.
The whole hotel is set in the jungle and it makes the whole place look stunning. The pools are great and the gardens surrounding them are very well looked after. The rooms are made exactly like the photos and are fully equipped with everything you’d need. Issues we had with the room were dealt with immediately. The hosts are lovely and extremely helpful. This is the best place we’ve staying in in Costa Rica and it’s great value for money.
The place is amazing and peaceful. It is calm, safe, very clean and the rooms are big - especially the bathroom with hot shower was really comfortable (extraordinary for Costa Rica). Federica and Roborto are super friendly and open to give advice about the surrounding area.
Also I would like to mention the great really special breakfast and the yoga classes in the morning! Everyone that stays in Samara should visit this great hotel.
I loved my stay at Casa Terra! Samara was my first destination in Costa Rica, and the trip was my first as a solo female traveller. Andres and team made me feel welcomed, safe and included in the Casa Terra family. The dorms and kitchen are simple but clean. The common space out fun is really nice and perfect for socializing with others. Best part is the location, which is close to everything one needs: grocery store, soda & beach.
By far, our favorite place to stay in Costa Rica! A perfect oasis, a true garden of eden. Not only were the grounds kept perfectly and the bungalows gorgeous, but Emma and her sweet family made it feel like home. The pool area was also so wonderful and peaceful, lots of cozy little nooks to chill out in and birds and iguanas everywhere. If I could give it 6 stars I would! Highly recommend!!!
I loved the location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was a really nice bonus and the restaurant is right on the beach. The hotel is situated two blocks from the main street so it was quiet with less traffic. The town is very walkable. I really enjoyed our stay and will definitely choose Locanda if we go back to Samara.
your in town but secluded and safe. across the street is beautiful beach good for swimming and surfing. there is a supermarket next to the property. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need. The staff was the most gracious, friendly and helpful we have ever encountered in the 20+ years we have been traveling to Costa Rica.
The hotel is located in a quiet area close to the beach on a slope with beautiful views of the water and beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Breakfast was excellent. Within walking distance to several local restaurants.
The hotel was very clean, fairly close to Samara beach (about 5-10 minutes walk) and close to the main town centre. The hotel has a small pool where there is a nice sitting area. The room was clean, nicely equipped including a small fridge and air conditioning.
It was the best hotel I had in Costa Rica. Very beautiful place with dedicated owners. Playa Carillo is in a walking distance of approx. 5 minutes. The room was very nice and clean with a beautiful tropical shower. Very good breakfast.
