The accommodation was clean and the room had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable and the room was only a short walk from the pool and restaurant. Breakfast was delicious. A plate of fresh fruit with coffee, followed by a choice of cooked breakfasts was sufficient to keep us going. The staff were lovely, always smiling and happy to help with anything. The restaurant served delicious meals using locally caught fish and the brownie is the best we have tasted. The hotel sits between 2 lovely beaches that are easy to access and don't get crowded. There is a lot of wildlife around and the hotel is visited regularly by howler monkeys, motmots and iguanas. The hotel is a nice distance from Samara to avoid the hustle and bustle but near enough to walk into the town for a meal or shopping.
Set in Samara just a one-minute walk from the beach, Blue Iguana features a swimming pool and on-site award-winning Asian Sushi restaurant.

Booked the place for the location and because it was one of only 2 in town accepting credit cards but was pleasantly surprised and extended for a week. Rooms were dark and somewhat dated (but, e.g., while my AC was very old, saw the room next door have a brand new one so they may be upgrading things) and the kitchen, although well-equipped, a total mess in grave need of some food marking/scheduled disposal practices. Still, the property overall was amazing – very friendly and efficient staff, big pool with multiple lounge chairs, on-site restaurant with great food (and music), and a bar with different events every night but far enough to keep the rooms quiet.
The Samara Pacific Lodge is situated 800 metres from the Samara Bay shores and offers a fresh-water pool, a bar and breakfast. American, Continental or local breakfast is included.

Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach.
Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach. There are many other beaches nearby. It has quite a few restaurants and cafes to choose from. Lots of great fish. Prices are "reasonable" by comparison with some fancier locations along the coast, but all prices in US dollars are high for Canadians.
Just two hours from Liberia airport, this town has a laid back feel. Not sure how long that will last.

Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.
This stay was perfect! If you are looking for being in touch with Costa Rica’s wonderful nature then this is the place for you! Celine was the nicest and made sure everything was good for us. The tent is surprisingly comfortable, with very very little insects. However, if you do not like being around animals of if tiny bugs bother you it’s not worth to come and then complain :) just know what to expect and enjoy the wonderful shade under the florest trees, with families of monkeys and coatis walking around
We felt right at home in this family run hotel. The customer service was fantastic. Very attentive service, great communication and flexibility. The rooms were spacious, equipped with attention to detail (e.g. umbrellas for the rainy season), each with a separate terrace where the excellent breakfast was served. Access to the beach with a good variety of bars and restaurants is less than 5 minutes walk. And the rates were very reasonable. Overall the best choice in Samara.
What can we say....you have a property where almost every imaginable detail is taken into consideration. it's a new, modern build. Rooms all are comfortable and have air conditioning. Shower's great, mattress is great, pillows are great (these are always issues in Costa Rica). Having a small soaker pool on the property was a great way to spend our afternoon after we went dolphin watching. We spent 3 nights here and wished it could have been 5. Would recommend to everyone.
The hut is owned by a person of European descent which may be the reason why the usual drawbacks of accommodations in Costa Rica were absent here: There were no loose water taps, non-functional power outlets or the like; everything was well maintained and selected with a great love for details. The hut is best equipped, cozy and in the middle of the jungle. The other reviewers did not exaggerate: You really can watch the monkeys while doing the dishes.
This hostel is in the heart of Sámara, great location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nothing fancy just a good room for the price and can walk to everything. 7 minute walk to the beach. Grocery stores across the street and restaurants all around you. Go on the dolphin tour, for $50 US it was four hours long. We watched dolphins for over half and hour then we watched 8 humpbacks for about 35 to 40 mins, it was amazing!!!!!
The view was spectacular. Puerto Carrillo has one of the best beaches on the Pacific Coast, especially the sunset. The beach access was close by, with good local restaurants within walking distance. The pool area is beautifully set up and it was never difficult to find a spot. Bar staff were excellent. The road to the larger town of Samara, where there are services and restaurants, was fast and easy to travel to by car from the hotel.
What a great place to stay in Samara! Everything is new and modern. The apartment was spacious, kitchen fully equipped with everything you would need, bed was comfortable, and the AC worked great. We cooked our own breakfast, and easily walked to town and the beach. The staff is also very helpful. If we ever come back, that's where we're staying.
Very nice hotel in a great location to town. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Staff was great, helpful and friendly. Grounds were pretty and the pool was nice as well. A little bit more expensive then our other hotels in Costa Rica but we felt it was worth the price. We ended up staying an extra night because we liked the town and the hotel.
This is a great little hotel located right on the Samara Beach. They have a very nice lounging area on the sand. We loved everything about this place. The restaurant is open all day until 9 PM and the food is delicious. The staff in the hotel and restaurant is very friendly and helpful. I hope we can come back to Bahia Hotel again in the future.
genna welcomed us so kindly we feel ourselves at home. a lot of advices and kindness for a real human adventure. in addition Peke prepares wonderfull breakfast with great recommandations on the area. we were in Costa Rica since one week but our vacations began in Villas Tangerine. a wondefull place for quiet and intense moments
We loved the location; the hotel grounds were beautiful. It’s very convenient to the town…easy walk. Access to the beach was excellent. Many restaurants, bars and grocery stores are within walking distance. The A/C in the room was excellent. Parking was adequate and the staff were very kind and helpful. Good value!
We were so happy to find this gem in Samara. The price is very reasonable for the comfort of the room and the facilities, including a large pool. The hotel is 5 min walking to the main part of Samara. To top it off, the hosts are very friendly and are always willing to share recommendations of things to do nearby.
This small hotel is a little gem of paradise. It is located in a quiet area of Playa Samara and is right on the beach. It is only a short walk down the beach to the town. The food is excellent and the staff was very friendly and personal. They give attention to keeping the place clean and safe.
Our stay in Hotel Casa Buenavista was amazing. Welcome was great and friendly, room decoration was superb, location was close to the beach with an impressive bay an not crowdy. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel, was very convenient. Swimming pools were perfect too.
1) The location: amazing, feet-in-the-sand on a beautiful beach in the quiet side of town. Yes, you are sleeping 200ft from the waves and that on its own, is something you don’t get anywhere.
2) The cleanliness: Very clean (per Costa Rican standards)
The man at reception ( name begins with ‘O’). He was funny and friendly. Free parking. Very pretty hotel and comfortable quiet rooms facing a pool
Very near the beach and lots is restaurants.
Lovely hotel tucked away between two beaches with frequently visiting monkeys, iguanas, birds and butterflies 🦋 Very comfortable rooms, freshly cooked breakfast. 2 min walk to Sámara beach
Everything. Stayed at seven places on our Costa Rica trip. Villas Kalimba was the best. Diego is the hardest working, best manager I have ever met, anywhere, period!!!
