Offering free Wi-Fi and free-use bicycles and in-room Japanese meals, Sumiyoshiya is a traditional Japanese-style hotel. It features a garden, hot public baths and coin-operated laundry facilities. A free-use internet PC is available at the lobby. Ten years ago we stayed in Sumiyoshiya and enjoyed our stay. It was as we remembered a beautiful and enjoyable place. Breakfast was good as we remembered - presentation, variety and taste were perfect. Waka Okami is the Okami now - we did not see Oh Okami this time, apparently, she no longer help run the Ryokan now. The place is still going strong after more than 350 years.

Modernised Japanese room with tatami mats and nice onsen. Short walk to Castle ruins and Kenroku en garden. About 1 km the all from the station. Overall Super convenient and stones throw from Omachi market. Loved the stay in here in beautiful Kanazawa.
Location was excellent- easy to walk to nearby attractions/food and on a quiet side street away from traffic. The house seemed very traditional but had modern upgrades like heated floors and a lovely shower/soaking tub. Check in was easy, tea and coffee were provided which was nice. We enjoyed the tatami floors and futons, but there are also 2 western beds as well. The house was very spacious for our group of 5.
Staying in this traditional Ryokan met our expectations. The room was spacious and clean. As the bedding and seating is all on the floor, 2 nights was plenty for our western bodies. The onsen was lovely. The manager was very kind and helpful.
The maximum Japanese design style room and garden views create a serene ambiance. But the staff's warmth and attentiveness elevate the stay even more. And it's hard not to include the traditional breakfast when it comes to this review. With amenities like hot spring bath and samue (not only) offers a truly unforgettable retreat into Japanese culture.
Good hotel on one of the main areas of Kanazawa (with a lot of other hotels). Very comfortable rooms with tatami mats, and a generous selection of traditional breakfast foods in the buffet. Well located to walk to samurai district, gardens etc.
This was our first ryokan stay. The staff was friendly and had great strength in being able to carry the luggage up the stairs to our room. Service was prompt and the breakfast and dinner were great, and it was a great experience to be able to sleep on a tatami mat. Dinner was a unique experience, although the unagi stick could have been better.
Authentic ryokan yet very foreigner-friendly. Immerse yourself in a traditional Japanese house and enjoy the onsen, the sleep on the futon and a tasty local breakfast. Definitely worth trying out!
our family had a wonderful and relaxing stay here. We got to experience a stellar Ryokan experience with wonderful Japanese hospitality. Meals were delicious and filling and the onsen was lovely. Waking up in the tatami room to the window view of greenery and Sakura was really nice. the staff were also polite, friendly and very caring! kudos to the team
Central yet tranquil location. Lovely little Ryokan that is friendly, welcoming and well worth a stay. Charming authentic tatami mat room and comfortable futon.
Good location, really friendly staff, meals were good too. No complaints overall about the experience as I booked it only to experience what a ryokan is like, including futons on tatami, which wasn't for me.
