The entire experience was much more than expected. The head priest was exceptionally welcoming and inclusive. Extremely patient, generous, and gracious host. He spent a lot of time the following day with us. It is an experience my wife and I will never forget. There is a lot to see of the other temples and sights within walking distance,

Situated just steps away from JR Shimobe Onsen Station, this hotel boasts various natural hot spring baths that date back 2000 years. Guests can unwind in the Japanese-style guest rooms or relax with the foot bath at the lounge. Japanese drum show and mochi rice cake cooking show by the hotel staff are held every night.

As an European we loved Shimobe Hotel. We visited hotel to feel like Japanese people during vacation, and it was brilliant. We could dip our feet in hot water watching koi fish pool, we were invited to mash rice to make rice cakes during evening animations, and there is beautiful stone outdoor onsen. Everything was far beyond our expectations, and I recommend Shimobe Hotel to everyone seeking calmness, relax and friendly atmosphere in traditional Japanese style

Amazing place with a delicious and outstanding dinner ! We really enjoyed our stay and the staff was extremely friendly ! We could also enjoy the Japanese onsen by reserving a time slot, which was very convenient. If you want to live a comfy and authentic experience, I would strongly advise for Shukubo Kakurinbo :)

wonderful Japanese Ryokan, welcoming, we felt transported to the well-being that this place brings you for the onsen you can enter with tattoos and as a couple, because they put your name in a time slot and you are alone inside.

It's tempting to rate this place higher bcz staff is nice, but that's not everything. The hotel itself is mediocre at best. Food is okay, nothing to write home about. Close to a beautiful Buddhist monastery, and has a nice zen garden. I have stayed at other ryokans for much less $ and much better facilities.

Beautiful place! Huge clean rooms. Comfortable futons. Closness to the teples and ability to take part in morning sutra singing. Staff speaks English. The dinner and the breakfast was tasty, beautifully plated, very interesting as well with a chance to try sth completely new (yuba chips!). Apart from all that - you can learn something about the culture as well, as they prepared a little festival experience for us.

Extremely friendly people, who make you feel at home. Very special atmosphere (and tatami floor) which makes the trip unique. Great to stay 1-2 nights and enjoy the secluded area and special food. Kimono experience is as well very good, as the ones which can be tried on are very special.

The breakfast was a bit "too Japanese" for my taste but all of high quality. You need to adapt to common bath and toilet as well as futon bed (a bit too hard for me), but that's a matter of course

Excellent location for a chilled out couple of days in a temple village. Easy to visit using the Japan rail pass and get a taxi from Minobu station. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Amazing food for breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed the cultural performance on our first evening, the opportunity to wear kimonos and the onsen.

This is a 550 year temple located just up the hill from the cute shopping street in Minobusan and close to many beautiful Buddhist temples. Itʻs a quiet area and very pretty. The meals were simple and vegetarian, but they did serve eggs and fishcakes. The bedding (futon) in our room was super comfortable!

Foreigner friendly, staff know decent English, yet are patient enough to entertain me in my low level Japanese speech ability, switching to English when I couldn’t understand. The room is HUGE. Everything is clean and well maintained. Appreciate that they took the initiative to get guests to sign up for using the amenities like booking onsen timing, kimono trying, giving advice on visiting Kuonji temple for the morning prayers etc. Even helped me prepare my breakfast early as I had to catch an early Highway bus, very accommodating.
