Rooms at Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza mix traditional design with modern facilities, featuring tatami (woven-straw) flooring and shoji paper screens but also a DVD player and full Western bathroom.

Guests remove their shoes at the entrance, and use a kimono and Japanese socks within the hotel. The hotel has a quiet “listening room” for musical enjoyment and a relaxed library. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

Absolutely everything. This is the nicest hotel/ryokan we have ever stayed in, and we will absolutely be coming back! Hinanoza is so relaxing, I’ve never been so relaxed! You literally don’t have to think about a thing. Wake up, private onsen, breakfast, nap, onsen, Sammy from Lawson across the street, read, dinner, drinks at the bar, onsen, sleep. Rinse and repeat for four days. Incredible!

Located at the shore of Lake Akan, Hotel Gozensui offers Japanese-style rooms with amazing lake or mountain views. The hotel features public natural hot spring baths and free WiFi.

Rooms come with tatami-mat (woven straw) flooring, futon bedding and an en suite bathroom. They are equipped with a TV, a refrigerator and an electric kettle.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They were very informative about local activities, available buses and their timetable and recommended restaurants too! They even gave us some souvenirs when we checked out and drove us to the bus center. The rooms were pretty big and a classic Japanese interior feel to it which we liked! We actually got rooms with a view of Lake Akan, but because it's winter the window was frozen so we couldn't see anything. The souvenir shop in the lobby also had a variety of goods at a good price. We had a very good time and we're really thankful to the staff for everything they did!

What an amazing location ! My bedroom had an amazing view on the river and I regularly saw some deers hanging around ! The private onsen is such a luxury and the bedroom was overall clean and confortable ! There is a free shuttle that regularly brings you to Akan Lake which is really convenient if you don’t have a car. A special thank to the driver who was always on time, very helpful and caring. He was the only one in the staff who was customer-oriented and embodied the service of a 5star hotel.

Fantastic ryokan overlooking the lake. We had a huge room with a private onsen and fabulous floor to ceiling lake views from the windows. (It is worth paying extra for the lake view.) The room was spotless and so well equipped, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Dinner was exceptional and served in a private dining room. It was an amazing experience. The ryokan was very close to the bus station, so it was easy to reach without a car. We used the bus from Kitami and the local bus to Kushiro Station.

One of the most unique experiences I've had - an exceptional stay, starting from the location next to Lake Akan, the tatami floor in the room and the wagashi offered, the rich and varied breakfast and dinner, the marvellous onsen and the lovely staff. The hotel is also decorated with magnificent Ainu culture symbols.

Best place in Hokkaido! Breakfast and Buffet Dinner included: great choices of Japanese, Chinese and Western food. Fresh food and high level choices. Lakeside view during meals. Great Onsen, friendly staff, shuttle to parking area fast and upon request. Big rooms, nice tatami styles, 5 people come for daily room cleaning at once and job is done so quickly, get as much drinking water as you need, afternoon can eat free Hokkaido potatoes, nice art exhibition area from woodwork, close to Ainu village, very friendly tour desk.
