Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkGreat hotel. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and definitely big enough for two people. The location is excellent - walking distance to a lot of attractions and easy to get to other parts of the city via the subway. There are also a lot of great restaurants and takeaway options nearby. And of course, the hotel is right in the Theater District, so it's perfect if you plan to see a Broadway show.

Great hotel in a superb location. Nice rooms, comfortable beds, clean and spacious bathroom. I saw some reviews about the noise from the rooftop bar - we were on the 21st floor and there was nothing we could hear.

Edit
HungaryHeating overall was almost non-existent, no matter how high temperature I put in the thermostat, it did not produce warm air, it was rather just circulating room temperature. It did not bother me too much as I have not stayed long enough, but I did have to put on a lot of clothes to stay warm when inside the room. Also, when I was leaving I asked the receptionist to help me order a taxi through an app which usually works for me on my phone but then it was not working. She asked me to pay for her to help me with getting a cab through their app, or I can go and try to catch one on the street, in heavy snowfall. I think it was a petty thing to do, asking for payment for a small kindness like this, not to mention when I did not find a cab outside straight away, her colleague helped me with the app, totally free, in the name of hospitality, which, tbh something that I would expect as a minimum.
This was a past minute booking as I was held up at customs at JFK and was unable to catch my connecting flight. I only stayed 1 night. The hotel is in a very good location, quiet street, relatively close to everything. What I liked the most was the view from the room, that was perfect and also the room was pretty quiet as well. I travelled alone so the size of the room was ok, as I also have not really unpacked, but for a couple it is definitely considered small. I also liked the style of the room and the hotel.

United StatesThe only thing I didn’t like and this does not pertain directly to the property, was that their was a night in which thief was a rooftop event and the bouncer at the front was rude about which way guests should enter the facility. I as a guest came up from the pathways of rooftop guest and asked “oh what if you’re a hotel guest?” And the bouncer just rudely said “next time use the next entrance” and let us in. I was unaware of any other entrance and found that a bit rude from his part as I should have more priority then rooftop guests at the hotel I am staying at. But other than that. The Hotel staff, location and property were excellent
I loved the quality of service i received. The staff at civilian is stellar. They anticipate all of your needs and are ready to accommodate any need or want one may request. One of the best services i have ever received at a hotel. The property is also very clean and nice designed.

CanadaNothing, well maybe there is not too much place to put away things. Hangers would have been practical. Coffee and tea and minifridge would have been nice
Ideal situation, near Time square but quiet, near 50th metro station, Port authority bus station. Walkable distance from Broadway theatres, safe for female traveller, amiable staff. For a quiet room with nice view, better choose one on upper floor, away from elevator, few floors beneath the rooftop club. Very clean and nicely decorated room. Bed very comfy. I had room 2307, on 23rd floor. Love to have a steamer available to unwrinkle my clothings. Hotel offers basic service (without daily, cleaning). If you want daily cleaning, choose all inclusive services it will cost more. Being tidy and having short stay, I had basic, if needed it’s 15$ extra for cleaning. Possible to have a very early check-in for 120$ extra or they can keep your luggage until your room is ready. Mini grocery nearby on 8th Ave. Excellent choice if you come to NYC to see shows! Wine, cocktail, coffee time was nice.

We stayed here for my 30th birthday and the staff were so kind, even leaving a lovely birthday message in the room and some Prosecco! The hotel decor and atmosphere is really nice and inviting, we didn't get a chance to try out the rooftop bar or cocktail room but they looked great!

United StatesIt was tiny which is expected in NYC. They did a really good job to maximize the space the best they could I only wish there was a little space on the side of the bed for a table or something. The side of the bed was just about pushed right against the wall
It was so close to time square and walking distance to a lot of the tourist spots (Central Park, Museum of Natural History, Rockefeller Center, Time Square etc)

PolandThe only drawback is the lack of space to repack and wait for a taxi. We had an evening flight to Europe and when picking up our luggage we couldn't open our suitcases freely to pack our last purchases and change clothes for the trip. We had to do it in the ground floor corridor between the bathroom and the social rooms.
Hotel in a very good location, with nice decor, two bars and a restaurant. The room is small but sufficient, well designed. A nice touch is free coffee in the morning and drinking water always available on every floor. Overall we are pleased with our stay.
