Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWhilst the staff are wonderful there is an underlying sense of ownership who are happy to take the profits but give as little in return as possible. The bed linen was laundered well but the pillows had long seen better days, the mattress cheap and the bare minimum shampoo and shower gel provided. No kettle, tea or coffee making and no sense of real hospitality. Strangely the towels were large and really good quality. We had one of the best rooms so we were happy enough and, as I said the staff were wonderful but I just had the sense that the owners were either over running a hotel or just plain mean.
The staff were fabulous. They made our stay in Coimbra so enjoyable. Adriana in particular is a gem. She advised us as to extra things to do and helped us in a myriad of ways. The cleaning was excellent. The building itself is very interesting and could be wonderful if renovated.

United StatesBusy construction work on the street made for difficult access. This is not something the hotel can control.
Very clean with old world charm. An ideal choice for budget travelers. Friendly staff always made you feel welcomed.

SpainThe only detraction for us was that there was a lot of construction in front—there was no noise, but it was difficult to navigate with suitcases and umbrellas, and I felt bad about getting gravel and mud on their beautiful wood floors.
The hotel is very close to the center, and near a good parking option (outdoors, but attended and cheap). The hotel itself is well maintained and clean, and the shower was very good—big, high water pressure and quick and consistent hot water. The room faced the back and was quiet. Especially for the price, really wonderful. The email they sent upon reservation was full of precise and useful information which really facilitated our travel, and they were kind enough to store our suitcases and take them directly to the room as we arrived before check-in

BrazilI would like to have breakfast at the hotel, but the price of 8 euros per person was a little high. Near by there is one of the most traditional caffes of the city (Briosa) and you can eat for less than that.
The hotel have a great location, it is near the principal street with restaurants, bars, gift stores and night life. The only problem was the construction field at the door, but this is not the hotel's fault.

United KingdomThe shower took forever to heat up and pressure went up and down. No fresh towels and because room was so cold they stayed wet. In October the room was very cold with no signs of any heating, other than an extra blanket. Wouldn’t like to stay over the winter. Staff didn’t seem to know much about surrounding area, places to visit or travel options.

United StatesThe wifi Internet service was sometimes intermittent in our room. We advised the staff that they should consider getting so-called wifi extender boxes to boost the range of the signals. But we managed by moving our laptops to one of the reception rooms and then we had a perfect signal.
The hotel has a grandness about it -- high ceilings, well-appointed rooms, with a sophisticated style, as if the designer had an eye for class. There were several reception rooms on the first floor -- with nice comfortable couches. The breakfast room was small and intimate, with tasty continental breakfasts (cold cuts, cheese, pastries, cereal, coffee and tea, fruit); breakfasts cost 8 euros apiece and they were a good value. The hotel is within walking distance of much of the old Coimbra downtown, and a short hike to the university. The staff was friendly and personable. The rooms were clean.
