Google maps took us on a route up the mountain that was very scary. There was another way that we found out about after the fact.

    The view was incredible!

Communication was not so good. First of all the message with the code to the door was send very last moment. But because I had no coverage to receive it, I couldn't get in. Also I couldn't reach the owner. Answering machine was where I could leave a message. There was no welcome letter to explain the house. Neither where to find the wifi code. Never it was given to us. Very unpersonal. There is a closed basement and before you get there you find pictures of a single man, maybe the owner. It gives a creepy feeling. Beds are too hard. Last but the worst, the showers were cold.

The nicest was the view over the river from the bedrooms. Just wonderful.

READ THIS: I cannot recommend this place enough but you need to understand a few things. 1) If you don't have an experienced driver with you then the last 550m on steep single track cobble will feel intimidating. Keep going though, it gets better and there is parking. Alternatively park at the bottom of the cobble and just walk. We got used to it in our normal car and it really wasn't an issue but you need to expect it :) 2) The spiral stairs are maybe not suitable for elderly people. Was fine for me and my 70yr old parents though. 3) Some reviews complained about surprise guests sharing the place - again, just message the host and clarify and you'll be happy :) That's it! It's a must stay!

It's a privilege to be able to stay here. Most amazing view ever! Very well equipped for where it is. A lovely balcony and verandah with fresh grapes.

it was very difficult to get too, very steep winding roads, and no parking…..although we left the car in the street. GPS had us going further down the street in a rain storm.

Lovely, but be aware that this is shared hostel-like accommodation, which is not properly explained

This accommodation is described by booking.com in such a way that you think you are booking the exclusive use of the whole house. This is not so - this is, in fact, a hostel, albeit an extremely nice one. On our second day there, 2 ladies arrived to share the accommodation with us. They had also made the booking through booking.com and were equally dismayed as we were to find they did not have the exclusive use of the whole property. In the circumstances, the hostess' lack of English was a problem, although the host's daughter was on hand at the end of a phone to translate. Had we not had these issues, we would have rated this property as a 10.

The views of the Douro river and surrounding location are fantastic. The house is extremely well equipped, the beds are very comfortable and the whole place is spotlessly clean. The hostess, Paula, is lovely - extremely kind and helpful.

My bad I did not do homework well. You'll need some form of transport to reach the accommodation as high up in hill / mountain esp if carry luggage. Also if you want to explore the region. Bedroom is at upper level reachable by spiral staircase. Prepare to make adjustments in communication as interaction would be in the local language.

Apologies for not getting name of lady of house right. Warm and welcoming person. Nice cosy place. Refreshing mountain air. Great views from where we are and as we walked down the hill. Wake up to birds singing in the morning.

Tricky at best to drive to the location - a bit scary if there was opposing traffic and in the night. Probably a small cost to pay for the amazing location. The neighboring dogs were also a bit too jumpy and barked too often on seeing strangers.

Spectacular location with amazing views to die for, from all the windows.

When they will fix the internet (wifi) and their bathtub, then i would give them a ten :).

The host was a very sweet woman who wants to help you where ever she could. Very friendly. The house was lovely, with a nice terrace, great bed, lovely bathroom with shower. High in the village of casal de loivois, above pinhao with a spectacular view. I will come back in few months.

1.) it isn’t easy to find. You need to have a car, and please be prepared for driving a VERY steep, gravel-only road with limited guard rails. It was slightly terrifying the first time. You will not want to do any wine tasting before driving back to the place! 2.) all communication was done in Portuguese. Which made finding the place even more difficult. We wrote to them twice and never received a response back.

    Views were great.

In terms of the location the house was surrounded by many dogs who were relatively aggressive and barked the whole night, which made it impossible to sleep. Moreover, the house was away from any proper road and was difficult to reach. Regarding state and equipment if the house many if the windows were hard to open (if at all possible), a flat frieing pan was missing and a hairdryer would have been nice.

The house was very clean and the owner brought us breakfast everyday, which was very sweet.

It wasn’t made clear in the advert that this was a shared property, there was another couple present and they were also unaware that this was a shared property. The bathroom was shared, we weren’t given introductions or instructions about anything within the property this made for an uncomfortable stay. The advert needs amending and clear instructions/guidance needs to be given.

The owner forgot our booking and it was only the chance return home of her father, who lives next door, that enabled us to access the house. It was absolutely freezing and it would take the radiators a long time to warm it up; they went off after a while so it was still freezing when we returned from dinner in Pinhao, and when we awoke. One bedroom was lit only by 2 small bedside lamps; in another even they did not work. The mains electricity was not on. The location on the map is misleading; the house is 627 metres from the village down a steep cobbled road. A car is essential.

The view of the Douro valley (when the shutters are not banging shut in the wind - they cannot be secured). The kindness of the father trying to make up for his daughter’s shortcomings.
