Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt’s relatively close to the pier at the better end of the walkway on the beach. The room was perfect. The pool is a little but clean puddle. The restaurant is nice for breakfast and for a drink. The main courses are not bad at all, but there are better restaurants along the stretch. The beach is nice and deck chairs are provided.

GermanyGreat location, directly @ the beach. I loved to watch the little pitoresc village change into a flatrate drink-orgy for fat american cruiseship passengers over my breakfast in the hotel Restaurant. Definatly a place with two totally different faces !!

United Statesthey gave me a room next to the bar with lots of noise, the worst room in the hotel, looking at the parking lot. the Food service was very poor and expensive. I didn’t find it welcoming that before seeing your room/hotel they make you sign a form of everything that they will charge you if you loose key, stain a towel, etc…
Good bed, good shower, clean room

United Statesthe street noise during the day was awful, pop music played most of the day to entertain cruise ship tourists. if it wasn’t for that it would have been a good location. the power was knocked out by a storm on our first night, hence my lower rating of the property.

CanadaPool is tiny, not really usable.
Probably the best option on the strip, day time is loud as the cruise ships arrive but it gives a fun vibe for the day, then is very quiet in the mornings and evenings. Nice that there are dedicated beach chairs for the hotel!

United KingdomNot the best part of Mahahual, beach is much nicer closer to the city centre. At least 10-15 minutes walk to the city centre where all the best restaurants are. No swimming pool and the top floor jacuzzi was dirty and not well maintained. The cruise ship companies own a private beach club next door, gets really busy when a cruise ship arrives, defeats the purpose of being in laid-back Mahahual. Over priced food menu.
Very modern and large rooms. Right on the beach.

United StatesA couple parts of the room hadn't been cleaned in some time: the shelf above the clothes hangar couldn't be used to store things because it was too dirty. The couch hadn't been vacuumed for awhile. Other than that though the room was spotless.

Austriaclean, friendly & perfectly placed. great view from rooftop & seaview rooms noisy during daytime due to the cruise-ship-madness in the village - but they return to their ships in the evening anyway. zero ship days: great one or two: take a bike and head the other direction. three or four: go somewhere else.

United StatesIt took a while for the hot water to work in the shower, but once it reached the room, it was adequate heat and pressure. The area is trying to develop the area of Mahahaul and Costa Maya into a resort area, and cruise ships are already coming in. Unfortunately, the seaweed is a huge problem, not just for this area, but the whole Maya Riviera coast. As for us, we rented a car to get there. It was about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Playa del Carmen. With the seaweed issue, it wasn't worth the drive. In addition, we got stopped by one of those "infamous dirty cops" we' had heard about on the return to Playa del Carmen. It occurred in the small town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. As tourists, we were targeted by a mortorcycle cop who said we had to pay him cash in order to leave, or report in 3 days to pay the fines he concocted. If Mahahaul ands Costa Maya want to draw tourism to there area, they need to put pressure on the Mexican government to clean up this corruption! Mahahaul and Costa Maya are nice areas, but our experience with this corruption will prevent us from ever returning! We will stick with Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, or at least more populated areas that depend on tourism. What a Shame!
We rented a room with an Ocean View. Our location was excellent! We couldn't have been any closer to the beach! Unfortunately, the seaweed was horrible, so we didn't get into the water. The restaurant at the hotel had good food and drinks. Our AC unit went out the 1st day we were there, but the staff installed a new AC Unit while we were out during the day, so I really appreciated their responsiveness!

South KoreaThe zacuzzi was not warm. There was only one chair at our balcony.
The best part was the private beach which was right at our doorstep. There's a beautiful reef near the dock in front of the hotel. I brought my own snorkel mask & fins and I saw eagle rays, porcupine fish, sting rays, squids, and lots of corals without having to take a tour.
