Our room could have used a bit of prior maintenance. The toilet seat was loose and the bathroom window screen was broken from its frame. Not all the rooms have window screens, so we changed rooms at the outset of our stay so we would have a screened window. This would not be an issue for someone who intends to just keep the air conditioner on and all the windows closed,, but we are accustomed to living in warm places and we like to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows for part of the day to bring fresh air in, even if it is warm.

This is our second stay at the Matan Kaan. We love this hotel as far as location and the architecture of the hotel. It's well thought out, with public spaces to sit by the pool, browse a book in the outdoor reading area, eat in breakfast area, or sit outside in a rustic corner. A turtle water feature adds to the delightful outdoor touches. And the pool is large enough that several guests can use it at the same time. The beds were comfortable and the shower water was hot. The air conditioner worked perfectly and cooled the room nicely.

The rooftop was very disappointing. The plunge pool was dirty and unusable and there were no loungers or comfortable seating. The bar shown in pictures was none existent.

The facilities, the pool good, but that's it. The biggest problem is don't have a fridge, this is unbelievable for all year 30-32 Celsius and 80% humidity and the bottle water machine don't have fridge too, only warm water. If I buy any beer, water etc. must drink it maximum half an hour because after that like a horse pee. The other problem is don't have a safe in the room, I couldn't closed my values, my money, my passport and everything. This two problem is insane I think and this could be fixed only 200-300USD per room.

The location was good, maybe 50 meters from the beach. The room is average, good A/C and big bed. Quiet neighborhood.

The bed was not that comfortable, at first the room smelled a bit like fumigant and you could hear all the noises a lot.

I liked the decoration of the hotel very much. Also the two swimming pools and the possibility of having breakfast in the restaurant. Also the service was excellent, they helped us with a lot of advice.

Despite the room seems new, it was in the third floor with no elevators and i have to chase the staff to help me with the baggage. There was no closet in the room, no desk/table or anything to place the baggage so all the baggage were on the floor (pretty uncomfortable), other thing is that there was no place to put the towels after using them. The A/C of the room on my appreciation was not suitable for the size of the room, if you open any door it would get warm pretty easy and it took forever to cool down the room again.

the location is pretty good, is very close to the beach and restaurants, everything is walk distance so you dont really need a car to move around, the check-in/out was pretty smooth.

The hotel has the perfect location in all Mahahual. Out of the door you are in less then a minute on the beach with several beach clubs. You also can reach it easily by car and park around there.

I love staying in hotels that aren’t a big corporate chain. This place feels local, so well looked after, little turtles, great pool, lovely staff. Comfiest mattress and pillows. Great rooftop area for a late afternoon beer and chill. The best location for the beach without beach prices.

The electricity went out for two days straight, they didn’t had a backup generator or anything. I was expecting a discount at least for the troubles; no AC at night, the bathrooms were dark all day, and the water went out for a whole day.

Everything was fine, liked the hotel overall, when it includes the utilities.
