Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaGoogle maps says to get off at an earlier bus stop which means walking on a scary road for a while! I would recommend getting off at the Motohakone bus stop next to the Lawson instead.
Amazing stay!!! The location is amazing, right on Lake Ashi - a short walk to the iconic tori gate and Hakone shrine as well as a beautiful view of Mount Fuji! It's also right next to a bus station and the sightseeing ship. I liked the deluxe room as we got our own bathroom, wifi and it was a larger room. It was super comfy and clean. Also right next to a Lawson and plenty of lunch and dinner options around.

SingaporeSmall safety hazard regarding the low wall when climbing up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Guests have to he careful not to walk too close to the wall. Parking was across the road without any traffic lights, have to be careful when crossing at night.
Value for money compared to other hotels in the vicinity. Staff were very friendly. Location is very good, walking distance to the lake, sunset by the lake was one of the best!

MexicoThe capsule room was not comfortable. It got really warm since it doesn’t have enough ventilation once you close your privacy door. I left it open to be able to sleep.
The location, common area, food, and the staff were great! Huge lockers to store your luggage.

Nice lounge and bar area. Good (slightly over priced food on offer). Breakfast good value for money for slightly weird mixture of eastern and western breakfast. We paid for a room with a balcony. Only room to stand on it, no chairs etc. Weird bed set up with one double on the floor and then another bed over it about 2 ft high. Felt like being in a cave. No space for luggage or clothes.

United KingdomBalcony could have done with a couple of chairs to enjoy our morning coffee on and the shower could do with updating. But these are more suggestions and didn’t detract from the stay.
Lovely staff and communal lounge areas. Enjoyed some yummy cocktails at the end of the day. We stayed in one of the superior double rooms and it was perfect - probably the most spacious that we had in our 17 days in Japan! Perfectly situated in a small sleepy part of Hakone, although about a 45 minute bus ride from the closest JR train line.

United StatesThere was a HUGE spider on the wall of one of the restroom, which was kind of scary when I first saw it. I then always use the other restroom. You don't get your towels changed everyday, so I'd suggest keep your towel after showering the first day if you plan to stay here for more than one night (or ask them they might change it for you).
Breakfast was great, it was confy and warm with yogurt, bread, and some protein such as chicken and egg. It also comes with your choice of drink. Room was also good, at first it may seem a bit compact and dim but I got used to it after spending couple hours in it, bed was confortable. Showering space is clean, with plenty of utilities available. It is also at a great location, within less than 10 minutes walking distance to the lake shore of ashinoko, haokone jinja, convenient stores such as Lawson and 7-11, and some good japanese/western style restaurants.

United Arab EmiratesThe luggage room is on the first floor, which can be annoying. But I suggest packing up a few things you'll need for the stay in a smaller bag that you can keep in your big capsuale. A few hooks in the capsule would be nice.
I loved the location being walkable from the ferry station and bus station. They have an in-house restaurant and cook up delicious food. The lounge area was perfect. It rained one entire day, so having books and a cosy place to sit and read helped pass time. The staff are warm and friendly. The capsule was comfortable, and the double bed size was more than enough for one person.

CanadaThe only thing is that they have no dimmers in the bunk beds room, but that is all.
It was beyond my expectation. I wouldn't imagine such a place existed. You get to enjoy a comfy lounge around a fire place and meet other travelers. The staff speaks decent english, you can enjoy free tea in the morning and they have a bar with great local Sake in the evening. The food is also amazing, both (breakfast and dinner).

GermanyWe chose the superior room which is one of the private room options, which was very spacious with a small balcony a really good set-up in terms of bed etc. The lounge area, food, drinks and service were exceptional and it’s a five minute walk to the most iconic view of Hakone. We would definitely come back.

United KingdomRoom is tiny but there are lockers to store your belongings in so you don’t need a big bag. Price is a little high considering the room size and breakfast not being included.
