Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaWe could not fault anything
The baths were very good for regular soaking during our stay. Whilst we had a private pool we also enjoyed using the larger public pool too. We also added the half board menu with our room and thoroughly enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. A massage was also a great option for some more relaxing time. A very special treat for us.

United States of AmericaI liked everything.
We stayed for 2 nights at Hananoyado Fukuya, and it was a lifetime experience. This was the highlight of our 2-week trip to Japan. The Japanese hospitality was incredible, and we loved the authentic experience. The hotel has two private onsens available on a first-come, first-served basis, which were always accessible. The food was amazing and worth a Michelin star. The hotel is in a perfect location, just a 4-minute walk to a pier with a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji. You can enjoy the view early in the morning before the tourists arrive, sharing it only with local fishermen. They served different menus each day of our stay and provided complimentary water and beer. The rooms were top-notch, with traditional tatami beds prepared for you, making the experience feel like a 10-star vacation. We felt completely relaxed. This hotel offers the best view of Mount Fuji in the Hakone area. We highly recommend staying at this hotel.

MexicoEverything was perfect. If you are going by bus, you just have to make sure to contact them at the time you arrive to the lake area so they can pick you up in the main bus/ ferry station so you don’t have to carry your luggage through the hill. Which we by mistake did.
Everything was exceptional from the very beginning, the staff was always helpful and polite, the facilities are so authentic and unique. The hotel has a few rooms so you feel like all the staff is always pending on you without being invasive. There is always one lady that is attentive on all you need and the one who serves you the traditional Japanese breakfast at your room each morning. We stayed at the room with private onsen and was a dream it is so worth the price. The room was all tatami and was divided by 5 main sections the bedroom, the massive living room a small kitchen area and the bathroom area which included a vanity room/ toilet room and shower room plus the private onsen. All for us. We also asked for the massage services which were provided on the first floor of the hotel and were also exceptional. The last day was a sunny day so we were able to see Mount Fuji from the main reception. As from our room the view was blocked by trees but it’s part of being on the hill around by forest. If you are looking to immerse yourself into the real Japanese experience, this is the best place.

GermanyThe meals and service were particularly excellent. The facilities were beautiful and had a timeless yet traditional Japanese feel as did the surrounding spa town of Hakone. I loved all the staff - they were so kind and helpful! We felt welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. Incredible hospitality and possibility for relaxation.

United States of AmericaCost is by person so can be a bit pricier (costed over $200 per person).
It was super private and spacious. We didn’t see to hear other guests at all during our night here. Service was exceptional and we enjoyed dining in our room.

United States of AmericaEverything was amazing. Service was high quality -- staff was able to speak English very well, got us comfortable quickly and provided a great experience. The public and private baths were also very comfortable. We ordered a kaiseki dinner separate from our booking which was served in our room which was wonderful. Breakfast, included in our booking, was delicious as well. Would recommend and go again!

CanadaThe minute you get there, the hospitality is a+. The staff was exceptional, taking our luggage, bringing us our meals, giving us a tour and being there if we needed anything. It was the best service we’ve had. They even gave us umbrellas for our 30 second walk to their car and when I closed mine too early, the staff immediately put her umbrella over me (I’m so sorry about that and thank you so much!) The room and private onsen were everything we dreamed - the scenery was so beautiful and serene, and the onsen our room was clean and healing. Amazing stay, wish we were there longer!

New ZealandLovely traditional guesthouse. The staff were wonderful from first greeting to departure. On arrival we were offered a beverage whilst looking at the view then checking in. After choosing a kimono for our stay we were shown the facilities and then our room, which we didn’t leave until checkout as we had a private onsen and all meals served in the room. The dinner was served by a lovely woman who explained each dish and retreated after serving each course (I think 11 in total). Very courteous and respectful, we felt we were treated as esteemed guests. Seafood and vegetable based meal, traditional Japanese cuisine, wonderful, bring a good appetite. Breakfast followed a similar theme. Beds comfortable and private onsen just right. Thank you!!

United States of AmericaI have nothing bad to say. If I had to say one thing, I would say that the bathrooms need updating. But, I wouldn’t say that if it wasn’t a mandatory part of this survey.
The service was the best that I have ever had with any travel experience, ever!! The food was absolutely amazing. The view was spectacular. I would highly recommend this for a couple. I went with family and I will definitely go back with my husband.

GermanyAs this was our first Ryokan experience there were a few hiccups and we didn't always know what to do. E.g. the futon bed was not made already when we came back from dinner (like I read before it would be) and as there was no one at the reception we had to figure out the phone (there was a misunderstanding with the instructions when we checked in because of the language barrier). The main issue were my partners dietary restrictions which have made traveling in Japan a bit difficult in general but especially the meal at Hananoyado Fukuya was challenging. I had informed them about the restrictions beforehand but it took a while for them to respond and the response showed the language barrier. I mistakenly thought that they understood everything but unfortunately that was not the case. However, I think with her many restrictions I would have either needed to simplify the request or potentially look into a booking without dinner as the traditional Japanese Ryokan dinner does not work for my girlfriend.
The staff was very attentive and friendly, it was our first experience with a Ryokan and it was great. The onsen was great, we loved that we could enjoy it together. The food was interesting and delicious. The staff spoke basic English which made the stay possible as our Japanese is very limited. It is very close to the lake and you can even spot Mt. Fuji from the lobby, albeit the view is a bit blocked by trees.

United States of AmericaThe location, near a beautiful lake, is fantastic, but the nearly hour long ride on a very crowded bus to get there was not. Still, I would do it again
The whole experience was just lovely. Staff was kind and attentive, food was amazing (course after course of beautiful traditional dishes), room was spacious, and relaxing in the private outdoor hot spring bath was wonderful as well.

United KingdomMaybe some soap in the toilet would be helpful so we don't have to cross the room to the sinks with dirty hands.
The hotel and its facilities were amazing. From the moment you walk in, it's a premium experience. The staff speak great English, are super kind and friendly, and will offer their help with any issue you have. Both the private onsen and the public one were excellent and had lovely calm views. The rooms are clean, the air conditioning is quick, and the food was delicious and unlike anything else we had. I honestly regret not staying two nights!
