Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaBooking a time slot to use the onsen is a bit limited, but the staff will try and make accommodations if you come as a large group of friends.
Nice homely feel, lots of staff are foreigners themselves, so it's was easy to communicate needs to the staff and they were very helpful. We tried both the Japanese and Western style breakfast and they were both delicious! You are able to use the luggage shipping service to and from this inn to Hakone-Yumoto station which is extremely convenient.

AustraliaIn general, everything, the view is stunning with that garden. It's very worth including dinner and breakfast. It was delicious and taste, bringing to us a full experience of Japanese culture. All of the staff are very kind and proactive. We could enjoy the Onsen more than once during our accommodation.

United StatesGreat stay in Hakone. The location is accessible from the bus system and is in a quiet area. The inn offers a shuttle to Gora station. They have a small restaurant that serves food and drinks during the day and into the evening. The restaurant/common area is very cozy with a fireplace and views of a rock garden and mountains. They let you reserve their onsen rooms for 40 minute blocks in the evening. The staff was very kind and accommodating. We very much enjoyed our stay.

United StatesWe stayed on the first floor, right off the kitchen area, without a private bathroom. The bathroom was shared between both first floor rooms and the main community room. Very well kept but not very private.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Loved the Onsen experience

NetherlandsThe breakfeast was not that great, quite simple for the price. We decided to eat out or walk by the 7/11. Our room was above the common room, so it was a bit loud in the evening. After certain times it had to be quiet, so not the biggest issue.
Nice location with good view from the 2nd floor. Spacious room for 4 people. It has its own private onsen pool (note left one is significantly bigger than the right pool). The view on the yard and mountains was very nice. They offer a shuttle bus in the morning to go to Gura train station (to go to the gondola), and a lot of nice restaurants are a walking distance away. Down the road from the inn you can get most busses to go around the area and there are several hiking trails nearby or a bus away.

SpainThe mattreses are on the harder side, so I found them a bit uncomfortable. The onsens are booked in the morning of each day putting a sign with a room number, and one of the days someone moved my sign to take my spot, so it is not the most foolproof system. The dinner items at night can be a bit hit or miss depending on what you order.
The place is beautiful and very relaxing. They speak english very well, so check in, check out and other stuff was very easy to do. One of the guys at the reception helped me decide what to do each day that I was there and how to get there. The breakfast they offer (eventhough a little expensive) is very good. The room and bathrooms are very clean and smell great. They provide towels, a toothbrush and a hairbrush. The onsens they have are good for being free, eventhough the are a bit small, so if you go with more than 3 people it might be a tight fit. They offer a free shuttle in the morning to gora station, which makes going to Lake Ashi and Owakudani very easy. It is also great to go to some of the famous museums in Hakone.

TaiwanThis hotel is located on a steep hill. Although there is a free shuttle bus for going out, guests need to walk up the hill when returning to the hotel.
This hotel’s private hot spring service is truly impressive. Guests can reserve hot spring times in advance, ensuring a convenient and comfortable private relaxation space. The hot spring rooms are beautifully designed, providing a sense of relaxation and enjoyment. Additionally, the hotel offers delicious breakfast and dinner, satisfying the guests' taste buds. Overall, this is an ideal accommodation choice for complete relaxation and enjoyment.

AustraliaThe Japanese breakfast was really nice and the food from the kitchen at night was good and reasonably priced too. It was really nice having everything there so we could go hiking during the day, then just chill out at the Inn and relax. It was like a holiday from our holiday, I wish we booked an extra night.

We had a warm welcome when arriving on site. The indications were perfectly clear and it was easy to find. It is located in a quiet area and we really enjoyed it. Our family room was very comfortable. Probably the best and fluffiest blanket ever! We loved the private onsen and the dining area. Nice food options for the family and very nice time playing board games nearby the fire. The drop off car in the morning was very useful. Thanks to all the staff

United StatesThe spot is a bit of a hike up a hill from the closest major bus route. This was fine for us, but I could see it being an issue for people with large luggage.
The inn was clean and the common room was full of friendly guests to chat with (if you so desired). The dinners we had exceeded expectations. The onsen, that you book for a time slot so you get a private experience, was clean and relaxing, and tattoo concerns were moot. We even woke up to a peekaboo view of Mt. Fuji from our room. We would definitely return!

CanadaJust be mindful of bus timings so that you don't wait for too long. Or take an inexpensive taxi from the hotel to the station or local attractions.
We had an exceptional stay. This inn is a great fit for those looking for a little escape from busy city life. The lounge which directly overlooks the inn's Japanese garden is an excellent fit for quiet conversation, simple board games, or for chatting with fellow travellers. The two options for onsite onsens are appreciated. You have the full 40 minutes for your own group with a minimal 150 yen fee. The inn attracts a variety of traveller groups, from families, to couples of all ages. It's an energetic but respectful environment. Our double room was clean, spacious by Japanese standards, and overlooked the garden. Tea, kettle, and water glasses (for the communal water dispenser) are provided. The staff are so lovely, from the kind front desk folks to the diligent workers at the canteen. Try the "omelet noodle" for a hearty meal. There is a free shuttle to Gora station in the mornings (9am, 10am, or 11am) if you sign up on site. The breakfast is hearty and great value to opt into. Thank you for the kindness!

Food on offer was substantial for one's stay. You wouldn't go hungry! It is hilly to walk to but it was OK for us. Would stay here again.
