Montusi Lodge will always be among the most special places we have ever visited. The grounds are gorgeous and location stunning - remote, with birdsong, epic views towards the Drakensberg amphitheatre and spectacular skies. The food is superb with a daily changing menu and we looked forward to 4 course dinners each evening (and the wine list!). We stayed 5 nights and hiked every day. Before we got there, Dumisani was super helpful with pre-organising transfers to the Royal Natal National Park (about 25km) which has fabulous hiking. Shorter self-guided trails can also be done on the Montusi estate, right from the lodge. A really impressive operation for such a remote location and hosts Lindsey & Mick and their lovely team are to be congratulated. Thanks for making us so welcome and accommodating our thirst for the great outdoors!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is spacious and clean. We had a bed for everybody (4 double beds in 3 bedrooms). There were 2 tvs both having DSTV and Netflix so that the kids can watch different shows to us. No load shedding! The place is set up so the TV's and lights continue to work despite load shedding. There is even a power bank so that you can charge your devices. Gas cooktop so that you can still cook as well. Plenty of cookware, crockery and cutlery available. We really enjoyed our stay, it was a lovely break away from home.

Set in picturesque Bonjaneni, this 4-star hotel complex offers contemporary accommodation with stunning views of the Drakensberg Mountains. Superb location, amazing views. Very good breakfast. Short drive to the Royal Natal park (~30 minutes). My son loved fishing at the lake (catch & release).

Situated in the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area, Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge overlooks the Drakensberg's Sentinel Peak and Amphitheatre. Let's be honest this is the place to be if you want to do the Tugela Falls/chain ladders hike as well as other hikes. We stayed in the newer Sentinel rooms and they were very comfortable, roomy with great views. We enjoyed the bar/lounge for a drink before dinner or just to hang out after the hike. Breakfast buffet had plenty of options. We also requested a packed lunch for the hike, which was very welcomed! The staff is very nice and helpful. Note: We would recommend to book a transfer to the start of the chain ladder hike at the Sentinel carpark. Do not attempt to drive there yourself as the road is in extremely bad condition. Worth the cost!
