A good base for exploring Efate , make/ do your own expeditions rather than cruise ship oriented ones ask the locals and don't be shy about hiring local boats to explore the offshore islands way more fun that way
Port Vila is great, but get out and see the islands and the rest of Efate and surrounding islands too, it's like stepping back in time. The snorkelling is outstanding. And the people are very warm and friendly.
Port Vila itself isnt anything to write home about but it gives you access to Vanuatu. One of the best countries I've ever visited. There's lots you can do from Port Vila itself like Melé Cascades, Blue Lagoon, Hideaway Island all on efate island but get to some of the other islands as well. They ate anazing. In Port Vila Reefers and the Lava Lounge are good to eat and drink or the cheaper more authentic Mama's food market at the back of the market.
Everybody was very friendly and made our stay worth while. It is such a culture shock but it seems to work for them. It was also great to learn about their culture and Efate is only a day trip to look at the whole island. Would recommend people to go and stay for a week to really experience its full beauty.
People great. I liked the chaos of Vila. Bus transport cheap and chance to meet locals. Need to get out to islands off Efate, out of Vila for best coral and fish. Take a risk and travel on local buses and fishing boats. Moso island great for scuba and snorkeling
There are many tourist shops and waterfront restaurants and bars in Port Vila. It's safe to walk around after dark, and the local transport ('buses') are cheap and plentiful. The town gets crowded if a cruise ship is in port and some of the day trips can be booked out. There is plenty to do on or nearby the main island of Efate, with lots 1/2 and full day excursions to cater for just about any level of price, comfort or adventure.
Fabulous base for travelling around Efate. Cheap minibuses to get around the island, especially for a large group. About two Aussie dollars per person to get around town in a bus. Swimming beaches in Port Vila and lots of recreational things to do. Try the U Power boats, helicopter trip and definitely do the Ekasup Cultural Village tour. We ate at Jungle Cafe, Au Fare, Reefers-good food, service and the last two have amazing settings.
The people are really friendly and honest. We hired a scooter from 'ON WHEELS' which was perfect for our stay a bit out of town, and to do a loop of the whole island. That way you get to see more things, have more stops and at your own pace as opposed to a tour (the downside being that you don't get a local tourguide's story about the place) although you will meet people along the way. The locals are all really friendly and happy to help out. Amazing waterfalls, lagoons, beaches, landscapes, bars and people to Be discovered. Cascade waterfalls is a must, as is the Blue Lagoon. We stayed a couple of nights at the Sunset Bungalows and the staff are outstanding, as are the complementary breakfasts, and the rooms are super clean, spacious and comfortable with a great water view. Cafe Villa along Pango Rd is a must for dining - excellent food and service and the best coffee I tasted on Efate.
Port Vila town is not as nice, but I like that because is not a touristic place. We rented a car and we have been all around the island. We visited many spots not ranked on google and TripAdvisor. We found the food over ours expectations, but the prices very high! Efate island is anyway a good place for relax!
Port Vila has a bit of everything, but it's not the place you want to stay for your entire holiday. It's a great gateway to start and end your stay in Vanuatu. Go and explore the capital first, then Efate and after that continue to one or the other island. None is like the other, not even remotely. Most fascinating are both the powerful nature and its people, the charming Ni Vanuatu. I wish that their relaxed and humble ways would spread over to our parts of the world...
Port Vila
Great value for money! Staff are lovely. Booked first for five nights and then ended up coming back for a few after expoloring the north side of Efate. All the luxuries you really need for a comfortable stay. Good place to spend atleast a few nights if you are trying to save some money on the accommodation.
The stunning location with the most amazing views all around the island. The water is just beautiful and so are the pools.
Loved my stay. In a beautiful location. Staff are incredible and go above and beyond for you. Can’t wait to come back
Very beautiful building! Traditional tropical style
Just outside Mele village, Island Magic was a fantastic place to stay! Right near the ocean and coral reef, the place exuded relaxation. Had the loveliest stay with great hosts (thank you Gerry and Yun!).
Best value accommodation in Port Vila. We spent two weeks in Port Vila and stayed in a number of places, this was the the nicest, quietest and friendliest place we stayed by far. Great value for money, full facilities in the sea view lodges including kitchenette, big comfy beds, great views, fan, Aircon and very clean. Our flight home got cancelled and they shuffled things around quickly to get us an extra night stay. Highly recommend.
staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming
Location is great like you are on your private island resort. Swimming to the reef almost starts from the Bungalow at your front door. Staff are soooo welcoming
Stayed here again after returning from Tanna Island. Can easily get here by local bus, only 150 vatu per person. Beth let us do our laundry and hang the clothes in the garage for drying. Easy walk to the city center. Since we have a very early flight at 6:30am, Beth helped to arrange a shuttle for 1000 vatu per person.
We had the MOST incredible experience at Paradise Cove. From the moment we arrived, greeted by owner Constance and shuffled quickly to happy hour, we knew it was going to be amazing. Staff amazing. Food exceptional, like the best I have ever had on a tropical island. Vilas were comfortable and cleaned promptly every day. Water sports gear all clean and available. Awesome cocktails. Did I mention the food? OMG, honestly, I had the Melanesian Fish Salad every single day for lunch. Tried everything else at dinner time. Breakfast was fresh, fabulous and made to order. Massie and Edna were our favourite hosts - they looked after us so well, incredibly kind, amazing service. They treated our 14-year-old daughter like part of the family. I will go back to this incredible piece of paradise again and again. It will become a tradition as it was so special and exceeded our expectations and then some. Constance and Marc who manage and own the resort, are visible every day, friendly and so welcoming - we felt part of the family from the moment we arrived. We had Christmas day there and shared with guests we’d never met before and it was incredible. The food, the beverages, and the conversation. We feel so lucky to have stumbled across this amazing place and we will return. Thank you so much to the team at Paradise Cove...you have created something very special. Kathryn, Jeremy, Leila and Maysie.
Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The room was very clean and the staff were amazing
We were in Vanuatu for 4 days, the hotel is a perfect place to stay in Port Vila very close to the city center and the beach, the staff of the hotel is so kind and perfect they help you for everything. The food of the breakfast is delicious and cooked by William so good. I wanted to thank the person again for his kindness :)
Great location at a coral reef
Went so well, very well treatment by the resort
Fantastic place and people, food was very good, staff brilliant friendly and helpful. Falling asleep with the sounds of the ocean, and opening up the big doors of the bungalow in the morning to have the sun shining in over the ocean was perfect.
