Stowe is a magical place, which exceeded our expectations. The village is beautiful and so what we'd hoped to see for our first taste of Vermont. We ate at the Depot Street Malt Shop, which was a great burger bar, and such fun for the kids. We skied on Mount Mansfield and our children made great progress in ski school! We would definitely recommend the resort!
Rutland is a beautiful town in the heart of Vermont, the old town has a very eclectic mixture of shops and restaurants, I would highly recommend a stop at the Yellow Deli for amazing organic home made food, once you are out of the old town things get spread out a bit, this is where all the the chain stores and restaurants are, such as walgreans Wendy's etc, it has good bus and rail links too, there is a Walmart in the centre of town and a farmers market next door on a Saturday
We're staying in Queechee/Woodstock for two weeks, and enjoying it immensely. Woodstock is literally the Nantucket of Vermont, the fanciest town in the state, with gorgeous early 19thC architecture, good food, and lovely places to stay/rent. But fancy as this area is for Vermont, there are endless drives in the area through real Vermont that's as down home as it gets. By my lights, Vermont is simply the best place in America.
Not a boutique, cute town. Basic working class Vermont with its own kind of old-time charm. Inexpensive. Lots of history in the area. Bennington Museum was a nice, small museum. Robert Frost house nearby. Allegro is the finest dining in town we found and very good food and value for modestly upscale dining. A good value ($80-100 with shared glass of wine, tax & tip). Go to Jensen's for all American basic food at great prices. Good salads, big breakfasts.
Burlington was a stop off on a road trip for us so our visit was short but still was a great stopping point. There are lots of bars and restaurants at the waterfront although we didn't think this was appropriate with a young family so we found eating that night tricky. We had visited the Ben and Jerrys factory on our way there which was excellent. There is plenty to do in the area. We also went to the Vermont teddy bear museum which was an awesome way to spend a morning.
Picture postcard town in Vermont - great place from which to explore the spine of Vermont VT100 - leave lots of time to explore
Shelburne museum was fantastic. Unlike anything you'll see anywhere else. And sunset cruise on Lake Champlain is great, well worth it (but can get chilly!). Whole town is very pleasant, so relaxed, feels safe (well, this is Vermont) nice bars and places to eat in downtown.
Wonderful village in Vermont. Good restaurants, history, many attractions without being gimmicky. Quintsentail New England!
Sugar and spice restaurant and gift shop is a must stop for breakfast. Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Not much to do in the area unless it’s winter and your there for the mountain sports. Nice scenery in the fall. Vermont Tap House has great pizza, and a good craft beer selection.
We came back to ski here after 20 years ( we married in Vermont then) and what a great trip we had. The hotel was great with friendly staff, we were just sad to see it so empty but meant the slopes were too - it was definitely out of main ski season. We ate at several of the local restaurants including Idletyme Brewery (great beer and ribs says my husband), Bench, Rooster at the Topnotch resort, Trattoria La Festa - didn't have a single bad meal or bad service, everyone was very friendly and helpful with recommendations and all a stones throw from our hotel which we also ate at. The Stowehof is a delight and I would recommend the extra for the Mountain View Room...won't leave it so long for our next visit. Stowe itself is small but some cute shops and the Black Cap coffee house serves a mean maple latte :)
Manchester
Manchester Vermont is a gem of a location, but traffic is a bit on the busy side throughout all hours on the local thoroughfare detracting a little from its quaintness. The hotel is nicely situated for access via walking to all town shopping and dining. Its exterior and facilities are nicely cared for. Coffee each day in main area is excellent. Beds are extremely comfortable. If you like dogs, this is a good place to review all the popular breeds who were vacationing there along with there owners.
The hotel location was nestled in between the mountains of Vermont. This was a perfect location since it provided an escape while also being not too far from the city of Rutland. The room was well-cared for and inviting. There was a babbling stream nearby which when I came out to the little terrace of my hotel room, was a great experience. The front desk people were very nice and hospitable. I am putting this place on the top of my list when I make future plans to ski at Killington.
The Coolidge is a one-of-kind, historic hotel, Not at all like a typical, modern chain hotel. So much history and interesting architecture inside the hotel. The staff is truly special. Andrew and everyone was so friendly and helpful and go out of their way to help you. I loved the extra space of the sitting room in our suite.Huge King Bed was quite comfortable, great showers, and lots of hot water. Don’t forget to ask to see the murals in the Vermont Room! An unforgettable visit!
Stowe
We had a beautiful room in the Trail House - actually more of an apartment, perfect for our stay with our 6 months old baby girl (she was sleeping in the bed room while we could relax in the living room). The common areas are super cozy and welcoming. The entire hotel is extremely well designed and decorated: contemporary but keeping the spirit of Vermont coziness. We really liked the breakfast: simple but delicious. And we could bring it up to the room.
The price was reasonable compared to inns or B&B in the Stowe, Barre, Burlington, Northfield ($900-$1000 per night) area but still quite expensive per night. $288 per night should be prime room accommodations, but I guess for this area, $288 is good. I understand Vermont goes out of its way to keep chain retail companies out to allow family businesses to thrive, but hotels might be one area to change this rule.
Our first time in Vermont coming from the Philadelphia area! Staff was so nice. Lodge itself was beautiful, clean and homey. Didn’t feel like a hotel at all. Someone was always manning the front desk so if you needed something it was easy. Don’t miss the lower level with a lounge area and 24 hour complimentary coffee on tap. Loved this place and will definitely be back.
Killington
Very clean hotel, large comfortable room, very comfortable bed, beautifully decorated breakfast area, exceptional staff. The innkeeper literally gave me a Vermont map and sat down and circled places to see beautiful waterfalls and great places to go on our route and the advice turned out to be great and made our trip a lot better.
Killington
There isn't anything to dislike, the staff are nothing short of amazing, the staff couldn't physically do , more to help you if they tried. Their own distillery is superb... try the maple leaf bourbon. This hotel is a hidden gem in vermont. Absolutely beautiful scenery, beds are comfy, hotel is fantastic.
Bristol
Everything about the Hotel and area of Vermont. The downtown area is wonderful with many options for stores and restaurants. The beautiful mountains and weather were great! I stayed here a few years ago and have family that moved here..and they too are happy to be there and part of the community.
Stowe
When we noticed we had a room with queen bed, we upgraded our room to a suite. That was quite nice. We had a fireplace in the room. The room was clean and breakfast at the hotel was delicious! It is a very nice place to stay in town. I would definitely like to stay again when we are in Vermont.
Overall good location for Vermont short weekend trip. I would have preferred a little bit more space in the room. Our room was in the building next to main building for breakfast. Short walk to the lobby. Overall hotel was close but still need to drive to downtown Vermont area.
Very clean hotel in an excellent location for touring Vermont. Very good breakfast. The hotel workers were very helpful. As we were in New England for 1 month vacation - the hotel's washing machine was an excellent addition for us. A highly recomended place.
West Dover
Lovely hotel with beautiful views and walks out the back. Just of the Vermont 100 which was great for our little road trip. Staff were super friendly and made a great dinner recommendation. Rooms were clean and the whole place had a beautiful ski lodge style.
Manchester
A work trip to Montpelier with state officials brought us to Vermont. We decided to stay on and chose the historic inn for a five night stay over the Thanksgiving holiday. The highlights of the hotel were the lounge with fireplace and the inn’s location.
we used to love it here but will no longer stay I strongly recommend anyone staying in the vermont area call and see if they are housing the homeless or acting as overflow for halfway houses. this city and surrounding city’s are turning to dumps.
The property was bright, clean & in an amazing location. I typically stay at Hotel Vermont next door but thought I would give this Hilton a try. Soooo happy I did b/c I absolutely loved it. I will be back from now on!
1) Nice sized room and comfortable bed. 2) Lovely central location to drive around Vermonts lovely towns. Would be great in the snow season with open fires. 3) Plenty of Bars and Restaurants nearby.
The hotel staff were particularly friendly and accommodating. It is a great location for visiting other parts of beautiful Vermont. I would highly recommend it.
Excellent hotel after a day-tour by Vermont, quiet and huge room with kitchenette. Convenient price in the region. Our group have a good time at night meeting
Close to restaurants and shopping. Hotel had wonderful touches of Vermont i.e. wool blanket, Vermont soap, furniture. Breakfast very good at the Juniper.
