It is on the top floor, and from the living room and one of the bedroom, the view is stunning. Surrounded by trees, we enjoyed the sounds of native birds (tūī, pīwakawaka, kereru, kākā...). The full kitchen has all you need to cook a good feed. Glinis was very friendly and had advice for us for our stay on the island. If we ever go back to NZ, and can get to Aotea, we will definitely book this cottage again!

El Aotea Lodge Great Barrier se encuentra a solo 400 metros de la playa de Pa, en medio de más de 1,2 hectáreas de zonas verdes tranquilas. The lodge was a perfect setting for our stay, we fortunately had pretty awesome weather so could make good use of the lovely outdoor decks. Our apartment was clean and well set up. Fiona, our host, was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The lodge itself is just a short walk from Tryphena Bay, with an easy visit to the pub, cafe and local store.

Whalers' cottage is in a lovely spot with superb views from the terrace and the upstairs bedrooms over the nearby inlet. It is in very good proximity of the start to the Aotea track. Unfortunately, the third and last day of the track was exceptionally wet and we arrived back at the cottage soaking wet. We soon forgot our wet journey once we were back at the cozy and warm cottage and had dried ourselves. It is a great place to relax and hang out with some friends. It is comfortable and fitted out with everything one needs for the stay.
