The restaurant is fantastic, too. We absolutely loved it here.

Hotel Lara's Planet offers pet-friendly accommodation in El Castillo de La Concepción. The hotel has a barbecue and sun terrace, and guests can enjoy a meal at the restaurant. The location was great. The food was great - nice to have home-grown vegetables cooked well with the meals. The staff was helpful arranging tours and reserving the return boat. The room was comfortable. The views across the river from the dining area and the terrace below it were amazing.

The cabin is super beautiful, the view over the river is amazing. You can listen to and observe a lot of birds, including colibris, and enjoy the peaceful nature. Saul is a super attentive host. He provided us with a lot of helpful information on options for tours in the area and how to get to the place from San Carlos and even organized our transport to the cabin from the port of El Castillo. So our tour of Indio-Maiz was all organized before our arrival and turned out great. The adjacent farm is super cool as well, he gave us a little tour for free explaining how he keeps the bees and showed us the cacao plants and more. The project of building an organic agroforest in this area is super interesting.

Guacimo lodge sits in 40 hectare primary forest property situated close to El Castillo and Indio Maiz biosphere reserve. It features river view bungalows, a large rancho, a yoga deck and a pool. We had an excellent stay in Guacimo. The place itself is beautiful and the facilities were excellent, however it was the staff and excursions that made the trip so special. Manuel had been so helpful corresponding with us before the stay about the logistics of arriving at Guacimo. Our boat from San Carlos was full by the time we arrived and so Guacimo helped by sending their boat to collect us, without which we'd have been stuck for the night in San Carlos. They helped us arrange to see everything that we wanted to whilst there and gave us some great advice on where to go in Nicaragua after our stay at Guacimo. Gustavo was a brilliant guide and taught us so much about the local history & wildlife. Franklin was there to help with any and all queries we had and was great with helping us arrange our onward journey and Margarita cooked us the most wonderful food!

We stayed for two nights, once after arriving on the bus from Managua and then again when returning on the boat from El Castillo. It is in the perfect location for the bus terminal and boat port (2 minute walk). The rooms are basic but clean. Great value for money.

A great place to stay! A lovely old house, clean, comfortable and on a quiet street close to the centre for the bus and boats. The owners are extremely kind people, I needed to change my dates twice due to a chane of plans and then unforseen circumstances and they were very generous and understanding. I booked and stayed here both times I was in San Carlos. Overall, fantastic value and would absolutely recommend a stay here!

Offering an outdoor pool and a restaurant, Hotel de Campo is located in Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve in Alajuela. Free WiFi access is available in this property in limited areas. The food was delicious. They put a lot of effort to source their food from their own gardens and have a small farm to provide this food for guests. The beds are comfortable and clean. There is a troupe of spider monkeys that visited every day because of all the fruit trees they have planted on the grounds and there is a lot of birdlife everywhere. Most of all we enjoyed our boat tour organised by the hotel. This took us down the caño negro river where we saw many caiman, Jabiru storks, turtles, and even a very rare striated heron.The hotel staff and owners are friendly and welcoming. Douglas even went the extra mile and made us breakfast at 5am as we were heading out on a boat trip around Cano Negro.... I mean.... Absolutely amazing. No food in the evening, but a superb restaurant next door meant that that was no hardship.
