Wonderful. Peaceful. Full of history. I've checked-in to Hotel Lazio (3*) near Termini, I've eaten at Zeus and Pizza in Trevi (I've spent 20 euros/meal - tips included). I saw the Colosseum, Fontana di Trevi, the Vatican, The Spanish Steps, a lot of churches.
Rome is great to see both ancient and living history through the city's Roman ruins, churches and cathedrals, fountains, and its winding, cobblestone streets. Don't miss the grandeur of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and St. Peter's Basilica. The Trevi Fountain is equally not to miss but be prepared for crowds. For great food, try looking for more local places- there are much better than the tourist traps that abound in the city. For authentic Roman cuisine, have Cacio a Pepe, Carciofi ala Romana, and finish it off with Gelato. Also be aware, charging "coperta" (cover) is illegal in Lazio- if you do not order or eat the bread or water, you should not pay for it. Be prepared to deal with crowds, wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes.
Rome is an incredible city, you can never get enough of it. I can advice some nice places that are not very far from the place i have been staying this time. For breakfasts Dolci Desideri, try Lazio specialty - Maritozzo, it's incredible For fish restaurants - Pierluigi, Assunta madre For fish burgers - Fish Hub For nice dinners - Le mani en pasta, Meridionale For cheap and nice lunch - Carlo Menta For luxurious aperitif - Stravinski bar
Great place to visit loads of history good food locals very welcoming . There's to many restaurants to recommend visit to the olympic stadium to take in a Lazio game atmosphere electric . If you can drive highly recommend as taxis expensive and the sites are quite far apart due to bad traffic so with a car there's loads of thing like the beach the clothes factory outlet theme parks .
Rome is the eternal street with fascinating architecture and atmosphere every step of the way! I have been often and find something new everytime from galleries and museums to restaurants and venues. I stick to Roman food and wines from the local Abruzzo and Lazio regions, my favourite area being Trastevere, especially for a group of friends. Plenty of smaller restaurants and bars with panoramic views of this glorious city for that romantic evening a deux!
We were actually staying in another location near Ardea ,but we have been to Nemi lots of times ,it is a must if you are travelling around the lazio region or staying there . We chose to stay overnight to enjoy the evening also ,as we normally visit only during the daytime .
Best part of Rome were the sights, the food and the people. In the streets around our apartment off via Cavour there were some excellent restaurants, far more authentic and better priced than the ones packed in the main streets near the main sights. Excellent pasta, pizza and meat dishes. The city isn't massive so if you're reasonably fit and healthy walking from one site to another is easy and you don't miss anything out. My eldest son (12) and I went to the Rome stadium to watch Lazio play a match. It was cheap and easy to ride a train to flamino (a few stops north of termini) then the number 2 tram to Mancini. The stadium was then a 5 minute walk across the river. The match tickets were easy to buy from a corner bar shop near our apartment on via Cavour but lots of other places sell them around the city. The only slight annoyance for me was the number of street sellers of the usual tat, selfie sticks, trinkets, frozen water bottles etc'. At the main sites such as coliseum and pantheon it became a little tiresome to have to ignore the sellers. It seemed fully tolerated though by the authorities and local businesses, I guess they're used to it and not approached.
I went there for Roma vs. Atletico madrid. I got a ticket in the curva sud which provided me the best experience. If you are considering a match with crowds cheering a lot you should definitly try that. If you are going to a match for lazio you should go for curva nord, avoid conflicting both. because the other side is always empty
Get out and start your day early. Great city for walking as everything is in walking distance if you stay in the right area. Via Frattina was a great street to be in. Everything close by. Go to VyTA at 96 via Frattina, great staff , great food, imaginative drinks, all produce locally sourced from the Lazio region. A must. Great restaurant upstairs with fabulous food and great service.
Just a fabulous city for a great balance of history, culture, food and wine! Would also recommend taking in a match at the Stadio Olympico (saw Lazio v Juventus!). I have been going regularly for over 10 years and still haven’t explored everything!! Mercato Centrale is a great place for lunch and drinks and there are numerous great restaurants. Check out La Taverna Del Chianti near the Trevi Fountain - excellent meat and wine!! Also the Metro/Bus passes are great value with unlimited travel. 48hour pass costs €12.50
Palestrina
Very nicely equipped apartment 2 minutes from the main part of the town. Parking was in a nearby street and easy to find. Palestrina is an excellent base to explore this part of Lazio: close to the Castelli Romani area, Villa Adriana, Subiaco, Alatri etc. It's about 1hour from the seaside at Anzio/Nettuno. Don't forget to visit the museum in Palestrina itself which houses the impressive Nile Mosaic from Roman times. We also appreciated the cool breeze in the evening and the panorama from the terrace above the town.
Bolsena
Stayed for three nights while traveling around Toscana / Lazio / Umbria. Very quiet and convenient place to stay for exploring Civita di Bagnoregio, Orvieto, Viterbo etc. surroundings. Bolsena too offers some nice views of the lago, attractions and good food to spend evenings or even a day. Apartment itself, although a bit tight, has everything you need, including kitchen equipment. Host Manuela was really nice, and that small welcome gift was consumed with a great pleasure in a sunny balcony :)
Tivoli
*Walking distance to Hadrian's Villa *Great view of Lazio from living area *Spotless: the whole apartment was absolutely spotlessly clean. *Breakfast was ample and a very good mix of breads, yogurt, etc. *Comfy bed *Large bathroom (we had the private bath) *Quiet *Ample parking on the street in front of the building *Owners & locals are very friendly at the cafe/patisserie around the corner, which has excellent coffee and baked goods.
Valmontone
Great host, professional and incredibly kind, Good location, for trains station , plus motorway. Good size apartment, clean and modern. the only downside, Was no Wi-Fi, but the host is working on that, overall 9 out of 10. would highly recommend, for anybody looking for a base, to explore Lazio, Naples. and a big shout out to Matteo who’s English is really good, and his father Bruno.!!
We loved everything about our stay, especially our hosts! Viterbo is beautiful and it's a great central location to visit many beautiful spots in Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany. The apartment was very well equipped and comfortable. Giovanna was truly wonderful, leaving treats and drinks for us and giving us lots of information about the area. We were really sad to leave. 💕
The hotel is great if you're planning to visit Il Tempio della Fortuna in Palestrina or this part of Lazio/Rome in general. Run by a local family for years. Very friendly and great food. Great location in the centre of town and perfect for bars and restaurants...and there are plenty of those around. Overall, a good stay, despite its condition.
Grotte di Castro
Casa Biscarello is a small jewel. Located in a very picturesque small town close to plenty of amazing places like Bosena, Pitigliano, Orvieto and many many more. The host were extremely friendly and welcoming and the place is very well furnished. The ideal place to visit this lesser known part of Italy between Toscana, Umbria and Lazio.
Gaeta
One of the most beautiful bay in Lazio the rooms are comfortables hidden behind a georgious garden. Everything is very clean and the staff is very friendly. Close to the hotel there are two utmost nice villeges. Gaeta and Sperlonga. We will for sure come back her again.
We stayed a night here at the end of a short break to various places in Lazio. What was good was the location of the hotel for early morning Ciampino departures, the bookable and reasonably priced airport shuttle and the cleanliness of the rooms.
Vetralla
NIce apartment and great base for exploring north Lazio and southern Tuscany by car. Very friendly owner. Great value for price.
Stylish, modern design, excellent service, perfect beach location.
The hotel garden was incredible and the whole setting picture perfect! A generous breakfast was provided on a lovely piazzetta under the trees, the menu and wine list at the restaurant were very good, the bars and the pool/sea area were all generously setup. The golf cart provided was most useful given how the hotel is set on the side of the mountain and climbing between levels can be quite taxing. Most importantly, the entire staff but especially the golf cart driver and the restaurant staff, were extremely helpful and courteous.
A total relax just at the sea front - with the sea view from the balcony. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff.
Love Gaeta and the people of Gaeta and Serapo Hotel staff
Comfortable room, great facilities and very good restaurant
The location and private beach is amazing!!!
Wow all in there! Lucky enough we had the good weather too and was able to explore what we had to set out to do like Saturnian terms, Porto Santo Stefano and the coast. The beach was nice and great that with all activities included like kayaking. The the facilities were great and stuff helpful especially and the lifeguards. The local supermarket was very handy with decent prices and products
gorgeous setting. beautiful room and facilities and a lovely staff
Super staff. Fantastic view and great location
