York Minster Cathedral
All piercing spires and vaulted ceilings, York Minster is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The most important Anglican church outside London, this ancient cathedral dates back to the 12th century and houses some of the world’s finest medieval stained glass. While adults gaze in awe at its airy interior, youngsters can have fun hunting for the gargoyles that grace the façade.

From the exterior, it is enormous in size and upon entering, the vastness is in no way lessened, with vast expanses filled with architectural wonder and stained Glass Windows, each of which have considerable religious and personals significance. It is a place that takes considerable time to explore and absorb, and that may a venture to the top of the tower, that will leave you breathless (literally).
A visit to York could never be complete without a visit to the Minster.

Get there for one of the tours, we were lucky as we got there just as one was starting. It lasted for an hour and was really interesting. Also one of the tips was to go to the basement for the museum.

Incredible!
Incredible! Magnificent structure of Peace and History which welcomed people of all faiths and none. Entrance fee circa £12.50 - good value and helps maintain the history of York for future generations. Your receipt/entrance ticket is also reusable for entry several times for a year which is very helpful as there is so much to see and learn - and cannot be totally absorbed in the space of a quick visit. Packed with interesting historical facts - suitable for Adults and children. Helpful & informative Guides/Stewards. Beautiful stained-glass windows; scheduled services welcome visitors. There are many opportunities to sit quietly in some of the small chapels - Peaceful and contemplative. A must see!

Absolutely devoid of any feeling of God.
Absolutely devoid of any feeling of God.
Stained glass not glorious like other places.
Lots of bishops glorifying themselves in expensive tombs.
First place I had no wish to light a candle to a loved one.
Not worth the £12 do the Jorvik ride instead

This is a magnificent building.
This is a magnificent building. Take your time going through it to admire the beautiful forms of the building, the variety of designs in the windows, on the walls, even in some of the pillars that support the roof. There are enormous windows at the east (altar) end that are worth special attention. The style of the building is called Gothic, not because it was built by Goths, but because of a historical error. It is elegant and refined, not at all like what people think of in relation to Goths today.

Make sure to visit the exhibition in the undercroft, as well as the crypt. It is easy to miss the entrance to the undercroft in the north transept but the exhibition is fascinating with the current building superimposed on a previous church and the central building of the Roman fort. You can see elements of the buildings around you once you know what you are looking at.

Fantastic central location. I chose this apartment as I was taking my parents away for a couple of days and my dad now uses a walking stick. I wanted somewhere that was close to all of Yorks amenities for him to be able to walk to, and this apartment was absolutely ideal, less than 10 mins slow walk into all the shops and York Minster Cathedral, The Jorvik Viking Centre and the Golden Tours Sightseeing bus trip.
The hotel is a very pretty building in a perfect location in the heart of the city, 2 minutes from York Minster. and leading directly onto The Shambles. The attached restaurant is lovely, very quaint, and the food is delicious. The staff and service were excellent.
Incredible view of York Minster from our room! Lovely cosy room. All needs catered for. Very quiet up in the eaves. Couldn’t hear any neighbours around. Location was also a huge bonus. You need not leave the station to get into the hotel..so weather isn’t an issue. Also extra bonus is that every bus, be it normal or tourist hop- on hop - off is right outside the building. The lounge was superb. The height of elegance and best coffee ever. The Chapterhouse food was superb and very reasonably priced.
Fantastic location, great parking under the building, nice apartment, clean and tidy. Amazing view over York Minster. super comfortable property. Ideal location to walk around York, No need to use the car. Owner of property very helpful & quick responses to any questions.
Loved the breakfast
Location was also good as it was 5 minutes walk to Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, 10 minutes to the Shambles and around 15 minutes to York Minster. Hotel was in the main street yet peaceful.
Staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming!
Hotel and rooms were clean
Great place, right across the Shambles but in a quiet street that is tucked away yet in the middle of the city center. The apartment is in a beautiful old building. It was perfect for the three of us - there is a comfortable bed in the bedroom and sofa in the living room/kitchen area. Floor heating in the bathroom was a nice touch. Perfect location, M&S right across the street, great cafes and restaurants near by. Everything is within walking distance (York Minster, parks, Museum gardens). Highly recommend!
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is in a great location, just 15 mins walk from York minster. Breakfast was included and was very tasty
The apartment was really central with lots of bars/restaurants close by and York minster right round the corner. Fabulous. Very stylish and clean with everything you'd need.
