Still spectacular.
Still spectacular. As of June 2021 there is scaffolding up most of the cathederal front and the historic clock for renovation of the stonework. I expect that this will be the case for some time so expect not to see the exterior in all of it's glory. However the interior remains spectacular.

Wells Cathedral is absolutely stunning.
Wells Cathedral is absolutely stunning. The carvings on the west front are magnificent and we particularly liked the clock inside. The stained glass windows are also beautiful. You can book to go on special tours that take you up higher into the cathedral but we didn't have time. We loved the green at the front of the cathedral but would have loved it to be more lit up at night.cchrismb8United Kingdom - 10Scored 10
GORGEOUS!
GORGEOUS! We visited day and night to get some cool shots of this cathedral. It is very intricate and grand. You can't go inside (that we could see!) but it's great to see from outside. Someone was having a wedding there, so there's that too!

Location could not be better. The breakfast was good but a bit expensive - but so was Wells in general. We ate at the restaurant one night, on the terrace and it was very good. The restaurant is very popular.

It's called "The Ancient Gatehouse" and we were in the gatehouse itself, built in about 1435. Our room had in all likelihood been continuously occupied since 1435. That puts it up with the earliest Oxford colleges and Royal Palaces and castles. It's quite a thought, all that history. And it's a stones throw from the medieval city centre, the view from the bedroom is of the west end of Wells Cathedral.
