The monument was a wonderful surprise.

The monument was a wonderful surprise. There is a shuttle to the base of the monument which is a hike to get too. Take the shuttle unless you really want exercise because climbing the monument involves three levels of twisty stairs and 243 0r so steps. The views are spectacular.

We arrived late in the day so didn’t get to visit inside the monument. However we did walk up from the car park to the monument, along the beautiful woodland walk. The walk is fairly steep and if you have any difficulties use the minibus.

    Very informative.

Very informative. Essentially just a tower but plenty of info about Wallace. Steep and narrow staircase might be a problem with unfit visitors. The view from the top is worth the effort. Recommend getting the frequent free shuttle bus to the tower from the car park below

I have often driven near the monument on the A9 but never actually visited before. It was just closing when we visited so we couldn't go inside (£10 admission). But you can walk up through the woods to the exterior for free.

Go early, this is a very popular place to visit and the carpark can fill up very fast. If your legs aren't as good as they used to be, take the shuttle bus up the hill, you'll not regret it. I walked the hill in my twenties and thirties etc, now in my fifties I took the bus!

Have used this hotel before. Chose not to have breakfast as we only have tea and cereal bar. The location is very good and it is only a short distance from the Wallace Monument which is worth a visit. It is also only a 5min drive to the town centre and castle. The room is a good size and comfortable.

The property was immaculate. Well kept and equipped up till the most minute detail. Fresh roses on tables and even a cute welcome pack and card. Well equipped kitchen with appliances . Comfortable bedrooms and beds. One bedroom overlooking the Wallace Monument. An exceptionally well heated cosy sitting & dining room. Great parking space and even a small back yard. Great location, 5 mins from centre and 5 mins from Stirling University. To mention that the host replied to any questions immediately and courteously. We hope we shall be back.

The location is superb, situated as it is on the way to the castle and (if you are lucky) views of the Wallace monument. The porridge at breakfast (on request) was the best I have ever tasted. Black pudding was also good.

What a fabulous location, the room was clean and quiet and the staff were incredible - very friendly, polite and helpful. Would highly recommend a stay at Highland Gate and Stirling City itself was lovely and the train to Glasgow simple and easy and right to the centre of Glasgow. For sightseeing and days out the Kelpies, Falkirk Wheel, Battle of Bannockburn and of course Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument all easy to reach. We will definitely be back to stay.

The setting. The University of Stirling is the most beautiful campus I can imagine. The lakes within, and the mountains without, make the scenery quite stunning. I walked to the Wallace Monument (impressive too), which dominates the skyline.

Spacious and nicely furnished apartment. Two good-sized double bedrooms, nicely separated by the wide hallway. Powerful shower. View of the Wallace Monument visible from kitchen and living areas. Large Sainsbury's within walking distance. Interesting things within walking distance once settled in, the Monument, Castle, Beheading Stone (sadly not currently in use..) and cannons over the city.
