Although the House was closed we could enjoy the gardens and grounds, and got helpful tips from a guide who was there to paint the railings by the entrance. A walk through the woods and in the glen is well worth it.

Also ideal to stay for when visiting cities of Aberdeen and Dundee as Montrose is about halfway between the two. Lovely staff and comfortable, warm, clean room. Good breakfast available to set you up for a day of exploring! Also great value for money.

We did trips to St Andrews, also across to the Speyside distilleries via Ballater and Royal Deeside. Lots of localish fishing villages and the National Trust for Scotland property at House of Dun. Plenty to fill a week. Hotel breakfast had a good choice.
