Ir is no doubt a wonderful cathedral BUT access was only through a retail style info centre and a hard sell for the £15 entry fee (even for the outside) seemed excessive! There were scaffolding and large scale building works operating (for a few years we gathered!...) Try Norwich if you want a more friendly (Free) Cathedral and Close surroundings!

It is built on so many different levels, unlike most Cathedrals which have a long aisle/chancel and then the altar, this has a long view along the main body, then steep steps to another level, and more steps up to the distant altar.
The windows are dark, and let in little light.
What also struck us was the way that strange broken pieces of stone carving were part of the structure, and had not been replaced/repaired: which looked so strange in a Cathedralmof such importance.

I got some stunning photos of the outside as it was a lovely sunny day. It is a huge building, beautifully kept, with too many interesting things to take in all at once. Not only is there the inside of the building, but you can also walk round the outside and see some historical buildings in the precincts. Do allow plenty of time to see everything, it's well worth it.

If you want to view a fabulous Gothic Cathedral with historic roots, don't come to Canterbury unless you want to pay £25 for a peek at it. ( £12.50 each - if you are a couple - it's £25)
we travelled around Europe this summer, and visited Rheims Cathedral in France (free) Ulm Minster (free) . . Munich frauenkirche (free) Salzburg cathedral (free)
at all of these places, we left a donation.
but at Canterbury. £25. for heavens sake !.
that's taking the mickey.
of course they'll say - they need to pay for the upkeep.
but so does every other Cathedral in Europe. They all seem to manage it without resorting to price gouging.
so, Canterbury Cathedral . . . ??
we just skipped it.

Free parking was mentioned. The host told me where to park but it was extremely limited and not available on our arrival. It is a housing association block of flats. The view towards the Canterbury Cathedral is wonderful however the windows and terrace area were filthy. Beds and pillows not comfortable and bathroom not clean. Not entirely sure I can recommend. Sorry. I wanted to like this place.
The friendliness of the staff was just one of the highlights of our stay. The breakfast was amazing, with a great range of choice between cooked and continental. The room was extremely comfortable with plenty of space to spread out and not feel cramped. The shower is a proper walk-in shower and not over a bath, which for us was a much appreciated bonus. It was within easy walking distance to the city centre, Canterbury Cathedral and the bus terminal.
Breakfast was excellent.Location was exceptional, right next to Canterbury Cathedral, room was fine if a little small.Gardens were lovely and the design of the hotel was very interesting
The staff were all brilliant especially the young lady who greeted us, checked us in, and served us breakfast on the first morning of our stay. Perfect location for a spot of Christmas shopping (or any other type of shopping for that matter!) Would also be a great base to simply soak up and explore Canterbury. Easy to get to and just a fabulously quirky place to stay - right next to the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. Highly recommended, in fact this was a return visit from last year and we fully intend to come back next year!
Located at the centre of Canterbury, minutes away from major attractions such as Canterbury Cathedral and from Canterbury West train station. Surrounded by pubs and other eating places, and a minute away from the Marlowe Theatre. Very attractive property, with a spacious bathroom and shower. Bed very spacious and comfortable. I also liked the toiletries provided very much.
The best thing about this property is its location in the heart of Canterbury. There are countless cafes, pubs and restaurants within a short walking distance. There are beautiful gift shops, parks, rivers and of course, the impressive Canterbury cathedral all within easy reach.
The location is convenient for Canterbury West Station and there is a Sainsbury's Local enroute. It's about a 20 minute walk to Canterbury Cathedral. The cottage is attractively decorated and was clean. There is a pretty outdoor space which would be an asset in good weather.
The hotel is clean, run efficiently, is comfortable and reasonably quiet. It is also conveniently located close to the central shopping area, and to Canterbury Cathedral. Well worth the money.

What guests said about Canterbury Cathedral:
The worldwide renowned Canterbury cathedral is worth the visit, although the ticket is not exactly cheap
The worldwide renowned Canterbury cathedral is worth the visit, although the ticket is not exactly cheap. It stands out as a magnificent example of gothic architecture, and it is definitely worth the visit to the city by its own. Despite being small, the town center is pleasant to walk along, and there are dozens of nice restaurants to enjoy at night.
