Attend the Last Post, it is incredibly poignant and moving as a reminder of the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives in WW1 - and the continuing respect shown by the Last Post Association and buglers from the Ypres fire service desrerves our continuing support.

Be sure to witness the WWI ceremony nightly at 8:00 (20:00) at the Menin Gate! Arrive early to get a good place to stand. It is commendable that the people of Ypres/Leper have made good on their promise to always remember the soldiers who died in that war. It was warming to see how school children are involved.

No matter what others may tell you - GET THERE EARLY.

No matter what others may tell you - GET THERE EARLY. It gets you a good position, a good view and most important - it gives you a chance to relax and get into the sullen-mood needed to comprehend what the whole place is actually remembering. As a decendant from "the other side", I was moved by the ceremony and felt INCLUDED.

A Lasting reminder of the price of War.

A Lasting reminder of the price of War. A must to go to, the Ceremony each evening at 8pm Led by the Fire Brigade Buglers is very moving, take the time to go and pay your respects and after have a long and good look at the entire monument and its names, regiments and countries of those who are listed on it.

Words can't really cover what this Memorial means.

Words can't really cover what this Memorial means. As a piece of architecture, it shouts traditional grandeur and solemnity. When you simply look at the number of missing Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors, it becomes something else and words fail, with emotion taking over. If one never goes anywhere else to see what effect the First World War had on combatants and their families, this is one of the most sobering monuments you could ever hope to look at. The people of Ypres have suffered much over the years and their daily Last Post ceremony is their way of expressing their gratitude to those who are never able to come and visit. Sharing the Ceremony as a visitor is one way to add to their Commemoration.

So much has been written about this memorial to the 55,000...

So much has been written about this memorial to the 55,000 missing servicemen from the battles around Ieper up to April 1917 (36,000 more names from April onwards are engraved at Tyne Cot Cemetery) that it is difficult to say anything new. Sublime architecture, a truly magnificent monument to those denied a known resting place, a moving daily ceremony to honour the fallen. A visit here should be compulsory and especially to every high school pupil.

This apartment is absolutely spotless and has everything you need for your stay in Ypres. The walk-in shower is amazing. Bernard is an excellent host. I can't recommend this place enough. The Sweet Inn is without a doubt one of the best places I've stayed at whilst visiting Ypres. Just a few minutes walk and you are in the main square where there is a great selection of restaurants and bars, and of course The Menin Gate.

The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need. It felt really really homely and we enjoyed sitting out on the roof terrace making the most of the warm weather. The location is great being a short walk to the centre and the Menin Gate, there is parking on the road outside or in a car park a short distance away. Sven the host met us on arrival and was really friendly and helpful. We would stay here again if we go back to Ypres.

Excellent hotel with very friendly staff..a home from home. Location very good with access to the square and Menin Gate and all Ypres facilities being very close. A surprise to have found it after 3 previous stays at the Novotel - Ypres, this has so much more character. (The Novotel is still good) Parking excellent for a big car (Porsche), plenty of space and safe!

This was a beautiful apartment in a perfect position in Ypres. We were just two minutes walk from a supermarket, a bakery and various bars and restaurants and only 5 minutes from the Menin Gate. The apartment was superbly furnished and the kitchen had everything you would need. We were met by the host who kindly provided information on the locality. We have a most enjoyable 3 days.

This is a lovely, central apartment and Dominique couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The rooms are big, warm and spacious with great views over the street. The location is perfect for exploring Ypres and visiting Menin Gate (9 min walk). Car parking is a 1 minute walk away in a safe, private, garage. This is the parking space Dominique normally uses for work, but she's happy to sacrifice it for guests. Entrance to the flat is through the framing shop itself, which was a fun addition to our stay.

We loved the location of this hostel style hotel and we were able to park on the street free from 18.00-9.00 and pay up to 4.50 euro for 3 hours. The woman who ran it was very friendly and efficient. There was a lift to the upper rooms. There were numerous restaurants nearby and it was only a 5 minute walk to the Menin gate.
