Everything was great. Perfectly clean, nice staff, warm room, and amazing dinner at the pub. Only bla point is breakfast, they kindly GIFT a in bedroom continental bf, which is great and was very welcome, but i wd have loved to pay more and get a cooked one instead.

I visited the 1885 with my partner for a friend's wedding in the summer. Having traveled from Berlin in the early morning we were very tired and the manager and bartender both made us feel so at home. He showed us to our lovely room right away, and gave us privacy, and all the essential details. We had mentioned we were hungry and he offered us a menu as soon as we came downstairs after a short nap and a shower. The food was excellent, a terrific steak from locally reared animals and a beautiful fillet of fish – just terrific. My partner had never visited Yorkshire before and I was excited to show her around my region, having spent a long time speaking of the friendly nature and hospitality of my home, I couldn't have been happier with the respectful, friendly, down-to-earth nature of everyone working at the 1885. What a delight, and exceptionally comfy rooms, at a crazy affordable price. If you're staying anywhere in the calder valley I would wholeheartedly recommend the 1885. P.S. great beer and an excellent all inclusive breakfast too

Turned up in the middle of a storm, fire was lit, pub dog was chilling, grabbed a fine pint of cask ale, checked in, walked down the hill to hebden for a gig, easily got a taxi back at midnight for a fiver - this place is a gem situated inside another gem - I will be back next time I’m in the area for a gig.

Not a great deal to say, staff friendly and welcoming, I like the ease of access via the back staircase.
