This family-run hotel is situated in Newton Stewart, a charming Scottish town on the River Cree. With free Wi-Fi throughout and free parking on site, it is around 5 minutes’ walk from the town centre.

The edge of the beautiful Galloway Forest Park is only a few miles away, and Garlies Castle is a 10-minute drive from The Blackhorse Hotel. In the surrounding area you can visit Cairn Holy, a chambered cairn outside town.

There was no breakfast, given the price. It was very easy to go to Sainsbury's and buy some items. What an excellent base to have a look at Galloway and it was very easy to find my way around. I need to return and explore the surroundings even more.

Located at the front of the hotel, the Queen Street Bar & Restaurant is open to both the public and residents. With booth seats, it is occasionally host to live acoustic music and a live band on a Saturday evening. It features two large TVs and a pool table. With luxurious seating, the Knights restaurant serves an a la carte menu and a selection of after dinner drinks.

The service was unmatched, every member of staff were helpful, efficient and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. The restaurant menu was great - a lot of variety especially with the specials menu changing frequently too. Breakfast was also a winner, continental and a full Scottish breakfast if you wanted (you could pick as many or as less items as wanted). The hotel is more than 300 years old so it was lovely staying somewhere that holds a small amount of history.

Set in Kirkcowan, Craighlaw Arms Boutique B&B has a garden, shared lounge, bar, and free WiFi. The inn features family rooms.

At the inn, rooms are fitted with a desk and a flat-screen TV. The rooms are equipped with a kettle and a private bathroom with a shower and a hairdryer, while some rooms also feature a kitchen fitted with a fridge. At Craighlaw Arms Boutique B&B each room has bed linen and towels.

Great welcome. Very pet friendly - no problem even at breakfast - our border collie was allowed to sit under the table. Very comfortable bed in spacious room. Lovely quiet village with shop and excellent walks for dogs.

The house was ideal for our needs. The starter pack of items provided by the host, meant we were set when we arrived. The host recommended the hotel next door for dinner (open Thur-Sun) and advised booking. Dinner was very nice- Tapas.

We stayed for one night to break up a long journey. We had a huge family suite which had separate rooms for the kids and adults. It was really comfortable and we had a good dinner and breakfast here.

The location is excellent for a stopover for the ferry but it is also a lovely area for a longer holiday. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Our dinner and breakfast were very good. It is dog friendly too. We have stayed here before and are very satisfied with it.

Comfortable, well maintained and decorated lodge in the peace and quiet of Galloway! (Beginning of March so not much open but that didn’t really bother us too much!) Bluetooth speakers throughout lodge (we like our music!) we’re also great.

Really friendly and relaxed place to stay. Clean and comfortable room. Good food in the bar and so welcoming to us and our dog Wilf. The team even called ahead to ask if we wanted to reserve a table for dinner as they were getting busy. We had a great start to our holiday at the Creebridge House Hotel. Thank you.

Lovely old building with quirky sloping floors in places, beautiful sash windows. Decor was reasonable maybe a bit dated in places but it was cosy and homely which was more important. Lovely big bath and plenty of hot water. Staff were amazing: friendly and helpful. Food was delicious: had dinner every night in the hotel it was so good. Breakfast was equally good and they were very flexible about what you could order, you didn’t have to have the whole breakfast grill.

The staff were all friendly. Dinner was particularly good with plenty of choice. The food quality at breakfast was poorer at a later sitting.
