The old Kleva Gruva copper and nickel mine northeast of Vetlanda is also a popular destination and one of the main tourist attractions in northern Småland. The mine was opened in 1691 and was in operation for over 200 years. Families with children who love Astrid Lindgren's classics can take day trips to Bullerby, Lönneberga and Mariannelund. The theme park, Astrid Lindgren's World, is within easy reach.
