Quinta das Flores is situated in the Enchanted valley on 2 hectares of land with a 5-minute walk from the stunning Mondego River. The farm is immersed in a river valley, in beautiful un-spoilt countryside , where you can find stillness, peace & quiet during your stay. The river just a short walk away where you can cool of in the hot summer sun or rent a kayak, stand up paddle board and explore further up and downstream. We're totally off-grid, so if a low impact holiday is what you’re looking for then this is the place to come! Wifi is available free of charge. The apartment is light and airy straw bale eco extension semicircle built on to the old traditional house with granite walls typical of this area & was originally the old storeroom and animal shed of the building. It has beautiful views of the surrounding valley and sleeps up to 8 people. It is open plan studio kitchen/living and bedroom space with a double bed, a little snug room with 2x single sofa beds, another bedroom with 2 single beds. The living room also has a double sofa bed. and 1 bathroom with a walk-in shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with all cooking utensils. There is a fridge/freezer and a gas cooker. There is an outside seating area which leads on to the garden. We bought the property in 2007 and have spent the past 16 years repairing the land, renovating the house and creating our dream. We now offer an off-grid, rural escape in central Portugal. During the renovation and extension of the property, we’ve made it as eco as possible by building with natural materials with the straw bale extension and natural plasters and pigments. We are off-grid, and our water comes from the water mines, then all the grey water is recycled through our reed bed systems to water our gardens. We have a wormery toilet so that we can then use the compost to feed the land. We generate all of our own electricity through solar panels. Our house has and energy certificate of A and is a low carbon footprint,

Fiona moved to Portugal in 2007 where she enjoys life being surrounded by nature living in harmony. She spent the years restoring and extending the house with strawbale extension. She is very proud of her A rating and low carbon footprint certification. Also bringing the land back to life using permaculture. Fiona builds yurts which she sells all around Portugal. She has a love of walking and hiking and the surrounding area has been an amazing place for her to connect with the land. 7 years ago she became an EC practitioner working with holistic medicine which she enjoys doing and seeing amazing results with clients.

There is plenty to explore in this region and you can drive to a different fluvial beach everyday/ You can explore the many traditional un-spoilt cobble stoned villages that feel as if time and tourism has somehow left them behind. Enjoy discovering the history and culture of rural Portugal, we can give you information about various artisan and traditional Portugese markets, historical sites, local museums and beautiful mountain or river walks. Unfortunately, public transport is very limited so you will need to hire a car to explore the area. Places of interest within driving distance include: - The charming cathedral city of Visêu (40 mins) - The beautiful University city of Coimbra (1hr) - The Manueline hunting palace and National Forest Park Mata Nacional do Buçaco (Buçaco National Forest – 1hr) - One of Portugal's most ancient indigenous forests Mata da Margaraça (Margaraça National Forest - 45 mins)
