Located in a beautiful garden, arboretum and truffiere in Appleby on the Waimea Plains, our secluded rural property has expansive views over vineyards to the Mt Arthur range. The retreat is surrounded by trees and the river is just 5 minutes walk away. Our accommodation is close to many attractions including nearby Moturoa Island (Rabbit Island) beach and inlet, and the villages of Mapua, Upper Moutere and Brightwater.River Road Rural Retreat provides accommodation for up to four people. With a choice of two bedrooms, relax in either the King or Queen beds, both with top quality latex mattresses, and luxury cotton sheets. Watch the sun set over Mt Arthur from the comfort of the lounge, dining room or expansive deck. Open the wide bifolding doors to enjoy a natural inside outside flow hto the deck and surrounding lawns and garden. Just sit on the deck and enjoy the chorus of birds as the sun sets beyond the Mt Arthur range. The well-equipped kitchen and dining room opens out to the deck.

Rebecca Hamid and Peter Burton will welcome you and provide advice on activities connected to our boutique retreat which include: •Relax in the eco-retreat deck and enjoy your views out onto the vineyard to the mountains beyond •Enjoy the original art works featured throughout the accommodation by recognized artists including Toss Woollaston, Alan Maddox, Anna Caselburg, Laurence Aberhart, Scott Eady and more. •Wander around our 30 acre arboretum, truffiere and garden, and explore the nearby river, and the stock bank walks and tracks that run alongside the Waimea. •Sit quietly and enjoy the native birds in the trees and open spaces around the retreat–fantail(piwakawaka), grey warbler (riroriro), paradise ducks (putakitaki), Shining Cuckoo (pipiwharauroa), quail, pheasant, plovers, wood pigeon (kereru), kingfisher (kotare) and tui. •Drive five minutes to Manuka (Rabbit Island) and enjoy the beach and inlet with a wide-ranging species of wading birds that inhabit the estuary •Walk, cycle or drive to the Waimea River habitats in the immediate vicinity; or ride along the stock banks that follow the Waimea River to the Brightwater village (30 minutes bike ride).
