This is literally the cleanest motel I have ever stayed in - and I travel the world. It was clean, comfortable and perfectly maintained. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spotless, the linens were excellent and the amenities were perfect for an overnight stay. Parking is right outside your door. Quiet and peaceful night’s sleep.

Very clean. Comfortable beds (most important). The shower was the best. You could write poetry about the shower pressure.

The history of the city is clearly evident in the retention of a lot of charming century old buildings which have been carefully maintained on the outside with appropriate interior upgrades. A ride on the river steamboat and a unique in-ground lift which takes you from near sea level to the top of a hill suburb are other attractions.

Whanganui has a wealth of history.
Whanganui has a wealth of history. Like many modern day cities/towns around NZ, Whanganui had its hey day at the turn of the 1900s, and as the river became less important for transport and access, the local economy went into decline. However, many aspects of this affluent past have been preserved. Highlights for us included the trip aboard the paddle Steamer (1912 restored) Waimarie, taking the elevator to the top of Durie Hill and climbing the 176 steps to the top of the town's WW1 memorial.
Walking around Majestic Square and the modernist War Memorial Hall, made us feel transported to Brasilia, as this style of architecture was lauded by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
We attended The Whanganui Opera House's Repertory Theatre production of Titanic Letters which was a lovely finale to our stay here.

Great area, near beach and a nice little holiday park with good amenities. Swimming pool close to kitchen, BBQ and covered area with tables, fab for families. Our small accommodation looked like a playhouse from the outside with a veranda to sit on, but provided tv, shower, toilet, kitchenette and double bed. Fine for the 1 night we stayed.

Our church group members went to Whanganui, some stayed at Coachmans Lodge Motel and some stayed at Burwood Motel. We did not really going around Whanganui as we were there for an event for our church and we had our lunch and dinner at the church hall.
We find it very easy to get around Whanganui and we will visit other places next time we go there.
We really enjoyed our trip.

Whanganui is a bit of a hidden gem!
Whanganui is a bit of a hidden gem! Excellent dining spots and cafe's. If you are an art lover then it is the place for you. Lots of Galleries and local art collectives to meander through. The river walk is a great stroll and older buildings to admire.
The booking was last minute so I was surprised they had any cabins still available, especially as it was Wellington Anniversary weekend as well as Whanganui Vintage weekend.
They are so accommodation here it was fantastic, so much so we are already looking to book in again but for a longer stay this time. With the beach just round the corner and a great cafe/resturant up the road it was the ideal location.
The room and the bathroom were large and spacious. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. The spa bath was easy to use and comfortable to sit in. The kitchen had everything we needed. The lounge area had two comfortable chairs, one was a recliner. even though we were booked for several days the rooms were serviced every day. The laundry was clean, reasonably cheap and both machines were industrial-size.
The bed was lovely and clean and comfy. The staircase as you enter is stunning. It's a lovely space, just wish it was done up a little. I got what I paid for though, it was cheap especially for a last minute hotel. A weird thing I liked was being able to control the lighting from bed with light switches connected to the bedside table.
The room was huge and well laid out. It was very clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable. The property is situated next to a New World supermarket and across the road from a Pak n Save and Countdown. It is very convenient to the road in from Wellington and the road to New Plymouth. Victoria Ave is Whanganui’s main street.
Wonderful location with large deck to peaceful view over lake towards the mountains. Only minutes from town but you're in the countryside! Clean, warm, spacious, apartment with comfy beds. Friendly, accommodating host leaving thoughtful touches like bottle of bubbly. Would definitely return here when staying in Whanganui.
Room was beautiful and clean. The manager was very understanding and helpful whilst making my booking. The spa bath looked amazing, unfortunately we were not there long enough to try it! The young man at reception with his Nana was SUPER cute and extremely friendly! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
The is a bloody gorgeous place to stay, for a couple. We loved it. It's a unique building with an interesting history, it's very well appointed and it's in a lovely spot. We appreciated being able to plug in our EV overnight to charge it, too. It's less than fifteen minutes by car to the centre of Whanganui.
As a truck driver I am used to motel overnightings. For my holiday we chose this for our week-end in Whanganui.
This is by far the best place I have stayed. Would recommend to anybody if you are looking for a tidy and spotless place
Immaculate and large apartment right in the Centre of Whanganui. Car parked outside the door. Very quiet with lovely owners. 5 minute walk to the main street and excellent craft beer and food in the Rutland Arms
