Built by our own hands, and those of our friends, some fishermen and lots of volunteers over the last 17 years, the Serai is no ordinary house or villa. Almost every visitor says it has a special and beautiful atmosphere. Maybe that's because when you take that long over something you put into it your heart and soul, and because it looks and feels like it's been here for centuries? Who knows? It might just be because of the monumental view, or the utter peace and quiet, the bright starry sky, the sound of the waves... You will be renting 5 bedrooms (4x en-suite), the saloon, dining room, kitchen, rooftop terrace, hall and pool, all of which are arranged around a central courtyard with a fabulous vaulted roof of vines and honeysuckle. The pool is a natural plunge pool, situated in the courtyard to avoid evaporation. It is naturally cleaned by a floating wetland system of plants and fish and uses no chemicals.

I am from Scotland, my wife is Argentinian, and we have two young children. One of us will be inhabiting the north wing of the house, without sharing any part of the rentable area with you. You may see us from time to time, however, as we work to ensure your stay is as happy as possible. There is also Zahra (cleaning lady / cook) and Si Mohamed (guardian) who will be at your service.

The Serai is 30mins drive from Essaouira, 8 mins walk to the deserted beach, and 40 mins walk to the windsurfer's 'mecca' of Moulay Bouzerktoune, where there are some small cafes. The house sits at the foot of a forested hillside and between two small fishing and farming communities. There are no other tourist developments of villas in sight. The main road is 2km away along a dirt track.
