De Gregorio Suites was born in 2019 starting from a far more extensive project designed by Cantine De Gregorio, which is to create a comprehensive experience able to link enogastronomy to the specific features that Sciacca and its surroundings have to offer (and, more generally speaking, the whole Sicily): from the handcrafted ceramics hanged on the walls of the four suite rooms, to Mr. Salvo Catania Zingali’s paintings exposed in the main establishment of Cantine De Gregorio’s winery, to a wine production which reveals all of the minerality coming from the land near the Carboj river, to picking almost exclusively local products in Cantine De Gregorio’s restaurants: Le Stranizze and Le Cantine.

Located inside the historic family building, the facility benefits from a very central position in Sciacca downtown. De Gregorio Suites overlooks the typical Arab-style alley and the beautiful Piazza Angelo Scandaliato. Four cosy and home-like suite rooms, ideal for any comfortable and intimate stay, named after wines produced by Cantine De Gregorio: Magarìa, Dragonara, Haris e Rahana. Each suite room includes a spacious living room, a bright-coloured bathroom equipped with an extra large shower and organic toiletries. Every single detail has been chosen with care and attention, selecting unique design pieces of warm toned and light pastel coloured furniture, for a relaxing and one-of-a-kind ambience. There is a noticeable balance between the shapes of the interior design and the textures and materials used, that range from homely wood to soft cotton, which is furthermore emphasised by Maestro Sclafani’s artworks, a celebrated local artisan who specialises in hand-painted ceramics.

Neighbourhood information

The historical establishment where the De Gregorio Suites are located can be found in Via Garibaldi, landmark of the City of Sciacca and once named Via Maestranza, throbbing heart of the City where arab-style alleys intertwine from 840 b.C., when the Arab occupation first started. Walking through Via Garibaldi you can reach right away Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, a beautiful elevated square where you can enjoy the view of Sciacca’s harbour and breathtaking sunsets. Strolling towards the main lanes of Sciacca, such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via Licata and Via Incisa, you’ll see typical craftsmen workshops pop up, especially ceramic shops, artisan productions of the almost lost and precious local pink coral and artists’ labs. Wandering around the City Center, you’ll come across the Chiesa Madre di S.S. Maria del Soccorso, which is just side by side with Museo Scaglione, a House Museum that portrays the history of the late 1800’s thanks to a wide collection of period authentic furniture and clothing. While you’re there, you really can’t miss San Leonardo, an old neighbourhood that has only recently been rediscovered thanks to the contribution of artists coming from all of Sicily that have pitched in with graffiti, art installations, and photo galleries.
