The host of Melar is Hildur. She is welcoming and friendly and happy to help guests with information or problems whenever she can.

Melar Guesthouse is a family run guesthouse in a small village close to the Arctic Circle. The Guesthouse has two hot tubs, Bakkaböðin, where guests have a wonderful view of the sandy black beach and the harbour. It is possible to walk down a lane to the beach and have a swim in the ocean, or perhaps simply stick ones toes into the cold water.

Melar Guesthouse is located in Kópasker, a small village in Öxarfjörður County in the North of Iceland. The bird life in the area is diverse, the lighting is unique, and the peaceful quality of the natural environment is remarkable. The area is quite distinctive in terms of diversity in bird life and there are bird watcing houses in the village. From the guesthouse there is about an hours' drive to Húsavík, about 37 km to Ásbyrgi National park and Hljóðaklettar, as well as only 60 km drive to the Dettifoss waterfall. The village is a part of the Arctic Coast Way which is increasingly popular with guests who choose to travel and experience roads less frequented in the remote areas of northern Iceland. A short car ride from Kópasker takes visitors to the actual Arctic Circle, enabling them to visit Raufarhöfn village with The Arctic Henge, and explore the beaches and bird cliffs in Melrakkaslétta.
