We are an Icelandic, Norwegian family of five that run the guesthouse. We love traveling ourselves and enjoy chatting with our guests, sharing knowledge of both life and traveling and to help if help is required. Butterfly Guesthouse is a family run guesthouse in Reykjavik. It opened in 2002 and has become one of the most favored guesthouses in town. If you stay at Butterfly Guesthouse you get the best of both worlds. It's both centrally located and extremely quiet. Therefor you can rest comfortably while exploring the capital of Iceland.

Our neighborhood is very friendly and everything is in walking distance from the guesthouse. There is a small shop on the corner of the street run by locals. There you can buy your necessities for the stay. It takes 2 minutes to walk down to the old harbour where you can start your day with coffee or end it with a fresh plate of fish from the local fishermen in the evening. At the old harbour you can also rent bikes and scooters or take boat tours to see the puffins or the majestic whales of the ocean. The center of the town is as far away as the old harbour and from there you can head to the old shopping street Laugarvegur and have a look at a rich variety of Icelandic designs and products. You could also follow the coast to the grand concert hall Harpa, the center of culture, to take pictures of the architectural design or to enjoy the music of the artists within. After a weary day of traveling one of the best ways to end a day in Reykjavik (and in Iceland in general) is to go the local swimming pools and relax in the hot tubs and sauna. There is the perfect environment to strike up a conversation and to get to know the locals.
