The Parlour has been lovingly renovated into a perfect place for relaxing after a day’s exploring of the local area. Guests can settle down in front of the wood burning stove, plan their next day’s adventure with the framed OS map or sit on the patio, pour a drink, and watch the world go by. You’ll want to stay “til the cows come home”. The cottage enjoys original features such as exposed beams & vaulted ceiling as well as mod cons like WiFi, Netflix, underfloor heating and USB charging sockets in every room. Need a place to work? There are seat cushions to make sitting and working at the table more comfortable, as well as a spare USB cable, note pad, pens and plenty of coffee and tea! Bringing your bikes? There is access to a locked garage to store bicycles as well as an access to an outdoor tap to wash them down. Just let the host know to leave you the keys. The Parlour is a great space for a couple or a small family. Four adults may find it a squeeze. The mezzanine, which has two low single beds, is accessed by a fairly steep & narrow staircase. It may not be suitable for very young children or those with mobility issues. Wood (along with newspaper, firelighters & matches) is provided for the wood burning stove for 2 nights. Additional wood can be purchased from the local petrol station or supermarket.

As a host, I really enjoy chatting with people, helping visitors explore our local area and sharing the great things Northumberland has to offer. We are lucky to live in a beautiful part of the UK with amazing outdoors and lots to enjoy. The Parlour is a stone cottage located in the village of Acomb, just outside the market town of Hexham. Guests can head out of the front door and start exploring the local paths and trails or walk to one of the 3 pubs Acomb has to offer. You’ll be enjoying a local pint in less than 5 minutes. Hexham (twice voted the UK’s happiest town) is 5 minutes by car or 50 minutes by foot. Hexham has wonderful amenities such as the Queen’s Hall Theatre, Forum Cinema, and Wentworth Leisure Centre, plus lots of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Head to the farmer’s market every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month in the market place (opposite the Abbey). Walk into Hexham and head to Tyne Green Country Park to enjoy a stroll along the River Tyne. Salmon run from June to October. You can watch fish jumping up the weir to spawn further up-stream. If you’re a history buff, you really are spoilt for choice. In Hexham, you’ll find the Moot Hall, Old Gaol and Hexham Abbey. There are numerous Roman sites to explore from Corbridge and Chesters to the Sill (and the famous Sycamore Gap) and Vindolanda, all within a 20-minute car ride. A few steps from the Parlour, you’ll find the Grade II listed Pant, a 2-3 century Roman stone carving and also St John Lee Church, which is a 10 minute walk at the end of a scenic bridleway.
