Old Hall Hotel, hotel in Whaley Bridge

In the centre of picturesque Buxton, in the heart of the beautiful Peak District, the Old Hall Hotel features a traditional restaurant, free Wi-Fi and spacious rooms with period features.

The hotel was absolutely filthy, food all over the floor in the bar area. I booked family room and phoned ahead to request a proper bed (not a sofa bed) when I arrived, it was a sofa bed and wasn’t even made up. The whole hotel is run by young people, I asked to speak to a manager but was told no manager available. The service in the bar was extremely slow, we waited 20 minutes for a drink to go with dinner, overall very disappointing. The guy with long hair running breakfast was rude, forgetful and slow… I honestly thought I had booked ‘faulty towers!’ Never again would I book this hotel.

The Lantern Pike Inn, hotel in Whaley Bridge

This country inn is set in Little Hayfield, overlooking Lantern Pike Hill in the Peak District National Park.

Great location for a three day stay. Excellent full English breakfast prepared by Mark and all the staff were great. Had an evening meal there two out of the three nights as well and the food is well priced with a good range on the menu. The locals in the bar are very friendly as well which made for a great stay

Convenient for one overnight stay as central.

Convenient for one overnight stay as central. Needs more facilities if staying for longer. Owner didn't seem to realise we weren't a couple and needed separate beds so we were a bit short of bedding.

    Loved the town.

Loved the town. A proper working town and nice walks locally. Also really close to Goyt Valley which is beautiful. Saturday was tricky as used to late night restaurants in Cambridge. The curry restaurant sorted that. After that we made sure of service times. The Cock pub did awesome food and great veggie food too. Lovely staff too.
