Property information

Set high in the heart of Exmoor National Park, above Timberscombe, this cottage enjoys a tranquil setting with stunning views. Ideal for walkers, and close to the coast. The cottage is 200 years old and adjoins the owner's farmhouse, however it is very private. Sorry: No children under 8, as this is a working farm with ponds and livestock. The entrance to the property is via a small hall, then straight into the living room with wood-burning stove, and dining table near the entrance to the kitchen. Upstairs there is one double bedroom with King sized bed, and one twin room. The bathroom comprises a bath with shower over, toilet and handbasin. Wifi is available, but given this is a rural area, speeds are typically slow. There is poor mobile coverage at the cottage itself, with some from EE and Vodafone. There is no washing machine at the property, but the owners will do a load for any guests staying for a week or more.

Neighbourhood information

Timberscombe is a charming village, which has a pub (serving food and is dog-friendly), church and post office. Dunster (3 miles from Timberscombe) is generally recognised as one of the most perfectly preserved medieval villages in England. There are many attractive and historic features, including a 17th-century watermill (which still grinds flour), a packhorse bridge and of course Dunster Castle, owned and managed by the National Trust. The coast can be accessed at Dunster beach or Minehead, or further west at Porlock Weir or Lynmouth (shingle beaches). North Devon's sandy beaches are an hour away by car. A wood in the valley below East Harwood Farm Cottage has become famous for the abundance of snowdrops. In recent years it has become known as 'Snowdrop Valley'. The snowdrops bloom around February and a park and ride system operates from Wheddon Cross to enable visitors easy access to the "carpet of snowdrops".
