Le Moulin de Battereau has been a family home since 1850! A former water mill dating from the 16th century, it belonged to Thomas Bohier, great financier of King François 1st and builder of the Château de Chenonceau. On the ground floor, a winter living room with its fireplace and old tiled floors, ideal for a game of cards by the fire. A fully equipped kitchen: oven, microwave, electric hob, dishwasher, toaster, fridge and tea/coffee maker. The dining room for meals with friends and family. You will be able to observe the ancient wheel which was powered by the pond and activated the mechanisms of the millstone to grind the wheat. On the first floor, the mill has four quiet and bright bedrooms with a view of the garden. The Blue Room has an attached private bathroom. A walk-in shower room, with a washing machine and dryer, as well as 2 toilets are also available. A large summer living room, made of poplar wood, where the stone furniture is located. Ideally located in the heart of the castles of Touraine marked by the 16th century and the Renaissance, it is an ideal starting point for discovering the many royal castles: Amboise, Chenonceau, Chambord, Villandry.

A few words on the history of this old water mill built in the 16th century and having stood the test of time. The mill was built in 1520 and belonged to the stronghold of Amboise. In 1525, the mill was given as a dowry to Anne Bohier by her brother. In 1577, the mill was sold to the Count of Sagone and passed to the Domain de la Bourdaisière. In 1683, the estate was sold to Philippe de Courcillon, Governor of Touraine. Her granddaughter would become the Princess of Rohan during her union with Hercule Mériadec, Prince of Rohan and Soubise. The Moulin de Battereau was then bought by our ancestor Nicolas Gaudion in 1756 from the Princess de Rohan, then owner of the Domain de la Bourdaisière in Montlouis-sur-Loire. For over 250 years, the house has remained in the family. Working tools until 1970, it became the family home for the last three generations. We are very happy to share with our visitors what was the working tool of our ancestors and the house where we spent a good part of our family vacations! And to allow you to take advantage of this atypical setting to discover the many riches of the region.

Do not miss the Collegiate Church and the Thomas Bohier manor in Saint-Martin-le-Beau (the Moulin de Battereau was built in the same period as the Thomas Bohier manor). Enjoy walks to the Cher, the banks of which are peppered with pretty manor houses, in the direction of Bléré in particular, or the canoe descent under the Château de Chenonceau.
