I’ve been travelling in India for some time now and this is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. I planned staying for a day or two but ended up staying much longer and that had a lot to do with this place.I felt at home. Owners/ Staff are incredibly friendly, they help you with everything but are also just amazing people. The place is clean, the location is perfect , quiet, yet close to everything. Waking up with the chirping of birds and before bed sitting around the bonfire… it doesn’t get much better. Thanks so much. I will be back!

The people who run it. The location. The rooms. Over all my trips to India I have spent almost three years in the area around Dharamsala (particularly Bhagsu Nag). There are now only two places in this area that I bother looking at to stay. This is one of them. I have stayed at this guest house on 6 occasions, and it has changed name and management four times over the years. It has always been good, but I must say the new managers are the best yet. Two great guys who set about to create not just a guesthouse/hostel, but a community living experience. I am not the most sociable person, but even I love the atmosphere they have created. I am now just back home saving money until I can return.

Live Free is an outstanding hostel. its 100m downhill from the main pedestrian area of Mcleodganj and directly opposite the circumnabulation path around the dali lama compound. i had a large private room which was spotless. the bed, sheets, towels etc were brand new. the views from the deck were amazing. wifi was strong throughout the day. the staff were fantastic and the food was also great.
