The grounds and houses attract a mixed crowd of backpackers, couples, single travellers that often extend their stay. Beautiful decorations and gardens, some in Hobbit and Elves style. I enjoyed talking to the other people at the hostel and I felt like I slept really well as well. It’s worth it being in the middle of nature even though you do you have to walk up a steep hill to get there. That really is the purpose that you’re right in the middle of nature, and the experience is otherworldly and incomparable.

There is a strong collective mindset (you’d better speak German though! 😄). You can start great hikes from there (Brecitos - Taburiente - back). You cook together in the common outdoor kitchen, share nice moments, enjoy the vibe. Staff is lovely. Including the 6 dogs and cats and guinea pigs! It has a retreat vibe, you can really relax and breathe up there. It is a must-go if you’re a hostel and hiking person.

I can see why Alison has called it Rivendell, it is reminiscent of Tolkien's famous valley of sanctuary. She's really made it a beautiful place. Lots of small, creative, touches and decorations make it feel very welcoming for people and animals alike. It offers very good value for money and has clearly earned a loyal following amongst the backpacker community.
