We had a great stop over at Chateau de Contay while visiting the SJMC at Villers-bretonneux. Leonie was a fantastic hostess, very courteous and considerate and gave us some great local tips. At this point we’d been traveling through Europe for 6 weeks and we had our best nights sleep and shower in all that time at the chateau.

This is a beautiful little room where it’s obvious that the owners wanted to create, with lots of love, a beautiful place to stay. It even has a common sitting room where you can also prepare your breakfast and a kitchen which contains anything you could possibly want including two different coffee makers with the fitting cartridges. Private parking in front of the house. And in walking distance (less than 30 minutes) of the highlights of Amiens.

But first, Laon is probably the prettiest city you've never heard of. It's a little difficult to get to as it sits high on a plateau, but it's worth getting there. Many great places to dine at and attractions to see. Just go! The B&B is run by a young couple with a daughter, and it is just fantastic. Huge rooms, very comfortable, and the breakfast is delicious. Our host was extremely helpful. We stayed two nights and could easily stayed two more except for our schedule.

Position is excellent, in upper part of city and an easy walk to centre and cathedral. Quiet street. On Saturdays in summer they close off a section of the old town for festivities till 1am. Maison Seraphine is just far enough away not to hear the noise. Pierre is an excellent host Breakfast was great, with fresh fruit and you could squeeze your own fresh orange juice; Pierre even produced scrambled egg. The house is old and quaint but our room was comfortable and spacious with a good walk in shower. There does not seem to be a problem with parking right outside. We came by train. Take a #4 bus from the station and get off at St Martin, only 1.20 euro. Laon is well worth the visit with relatively few tourists. The cathedral is magnificent, must be one of the finest in France. Some good restaurants and if you want a lighter meal, try a platter from the Fromagerie des Remparts.
