This family-run hotel is situated in Newton Stewart, a charming Scottish town on the River Cree. With free Wi-Fi throughout and free parking on site, it is around 5 minutes’ walk from the town centre.

Rooms at The Blackhorse are traditionally furnished, with simple décor. Each benefits from a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and free toiletries.

There was no breakfast, given the price. It was very easy to go to Sainsbury's and buy some items. What an excellent base to have a look at Galloway and it was very easy to find my way around. I need to return and explore the surroundings even more.

Located at the front of the hotel, the Queen Street Bar & Restaurant is open to both the public and residents. With booth seats, it is occasionally host to live acoustic music and a live band on a Saturday evening. It features two large TVs and a pool table. With luxurious seating, the Knights restaurant serves an a la carte menu and a selection of after dinner drinks.

The service was unmatched, every member of staff were helpful, efficient and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. The restaurant menu was great - a lot of variety especially with the specials menu changing frequently too. Breakfast was also a winner, continental and a full Scottish breakfast if you wanted (you could pick as many or as less items as wanted). The hotel is more than 300 years old so it was lovely staying somewhere that holds a small amount of history.

Small but mighty studio in a nice, quiet location. Friendly but unobtrusive hosts. Comfortable bed and good shower. Enclosed shady garden area was great for the dog, and we enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of wine. Everything was good quality and well thought out. Kitchenette has limited facilities for preparing food but plenty of options for evening meals within 15 minutes.

I Really enjoyed my stay at Fordbank House. Lesley and her husband are very friendly and great hosts. They had lots of good suggestions for exploring the local area. The breakfast was delicious and executed to a high quality. And Reuben (the dog) was a delightful surprise also! If you are wanting to explore south west Scotland, I would definitely recommend staying at Fordbank House!
