Everything was as described. Beautiful. Clean and a super comfortable bed.

We loved absolutely everything about this gem of a property: the location in a stunning natural environment, the adorable staff, the unique history and decor of the hotel full of collectible and heirloom furniture and, of course the wonderful dinner. Food certainly was a highlight as this is generally where Norway fails to impress us. We were served a fresh, creative, and delicious dinner in the beautiful dining room overlooking the fjell. The chef even adjusted the menu for the vegetarians among us, creating genuine new dishes for us. Wow! Again, that was unexpected as eating veg in Norway is often a challenge. Everything felt authentic and personal in this independently-run property. Dinner starts with a presentation of the history of the place by the owner, their struggles during Covid and how they overcame them. Charmingly, this introduction included the reading of a poem (sadly we don’t understand Norwegian so had to rely on the translation of the presentation afterwards). Every effort is made to be sustainable : There’s a vegetable garden, the delicious bread is baked on the premisses (we took a box of the amazing Flatbrød with us) and the lovely shop sells some local cheese, honey and other specialties including, this being Norway, sweets :) We are already dreaming of a next stay to the Tuddal Høyfjellshotel to experience more of its magic and of the stunning nature around it as our stay this time was way too short. Note to the owners: stay as you are, you are a genuine gem and the world needs more places like yours. Thank you for everything!

Offering a restaurant, Løvheim Gjestehus is located in Sauland village. All the brightly decorated rooms include free WiFi access and a private bathroom with shower. Notodden town centre is a 25-minute drive away. The breakfast was good. We bought a dinner upon our arrival. It was excellent. Marijke made us feel very welcomed. I started to feel like I was part of her family. The bedroom was well appointed as the other public spaces. My only wish - I wish we could have stayed longer.

Nutheim Gjestgiveri is a family-run wooden hotel built in 1877. The hotel’s view over the Flatdal Valley is famous and has attracted painters and artists for generations. Still the hotel has an artistic atmosphere with original artwork on the walls and in the romantic garden surrounding the hotel. Beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. The food was exceptionally good. We would love to stay again.

On-site leisure options include 2 children’s playgrounds and a beach area. Guests can rent boats, kayaks and canoes. Fishing is another activity that can enjoyed on the lake. There are 2 hiking paths on the campground as well. The entire property is gorgeous in the most beautiful location right on the lake! The cabin was cozy with a comfortable bed and everything needed to make your own food.
