Beautiful hotel in a fabulous location in the old town. Walking distance to all the Christmas markets and right by public transport. Hotel has 5 star decor and finishes with clever attention to detail and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

My husband and I usually stay in moderately-priced hotels, but decided to treat ourselves to a little more upscale stay at the Hotel Volkshaus Basel for one night! Wow! I was not prepared for the luxury that awaited us! From the hallway coffee/water/chocolate station; to the gorgeous courtyard view; to the lovely accommodations with separate shower and toilet rooms; to the lavish breakfast the following morning - the Volkshaus did not disappoint! If I could rate the hotel above a 10, I would do so in a quick second! Our stay here was one of the highlights of our trip!

It is one of the most enjoyable hotels we have stayed in during our travels so far. Everything is very carefully thought out. The location is great! The restaurant downstairs is equally enjoyable at night and at breakfast. If we come to Basel again, this will definitely be the only place we will stay.

The hosts were super friendly. The place, while small, is cute and private. The absolute highlight is the breakfast, which was phenomenal to the point where you feel sad you can't eat everything.

The location--a short walk to grocery stores, tram stops, the Rhine, and the famous Basler Art Museum--is wonderful. A city tax, payable upon check-in, rewards guests with an unlimited tram/bus ticket for free travel on the entire Basel public transportation network. The apartment, accessible by elevator, was quiet and spacious, including a balcony with seating, a large bedroom with generous storage space, and a larger sitting room and full-equipped kitchen area. Re-charging outlets for electronic devices next to the nightstands were convenient. The shower/bathtub and sink are in one room, a toilet and tiny sink in another. We especially liked the superior body and shampoo liquid soaps. All the fixtures are very modern. There is a washer and dryer in a hallway room nearby.

Location was perfect. Host was exceptional. Apartment was so clean and big enough for 3 people. We loved balcony very much. Kitchen had everything we need. I recommend this place!!

Great host. Explained what all there is to see in the city. She marked on the map and recommended the biggest sights. Breakfast excellent. Accommodation is wonderful.
