Everything was nice and clean. The free drinks at the evening were just great (sake tasting!). The location is amazing.

We have never felt so welcomed like we did here. Everything is perfectly designed to make you feel special, from the moment they look for you in the station to take you to the hotel, the check in experience, to how the member of the staff that accompanies you to the room to explain you everything and give you the welcoming treat. The kaiseki meals are superb, the quality and level of detail of the food and the explanation of each dish. The onsen experience was also very good, there are two onsen for male and two for females with every amenities you could need and more. There are spacious, very comfortable, well maintained and clean. Highly recommended and would repeat the stay if we go back to Takayama.

Situated at the heart of historic Takayama Old Town and just steps away from Takayama Jinya Morning Market, the traditional Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan offers personalised hospitality, hot spring baths... The Ryokan was exceptional. All the staff were welcoming and friendly. The room (the one with the semi open air bath) is astonishing. The kaiseki dinner was excellent and the sushi bar too.

Right in the centre of Takayama, situated within a short distance of Takayama Station and Fuji Folk Museum, RIKKA BABA ICHI offers free WiFi, air conditioning and household amenities such as a... Very nice riyokan. Our family enjoyed it a lot. The checkin with tablet was easy and went very well. The support from the owner was very good : we call late 1st night to understand how to get hot water and received immediately the answer. I definitely recommend and we will come back with pleasure.

Located in the centre of Takayama, TANIYA features an open-air bath, a garden, free WiFi, and free private parking for guests who drive. The building itself, as you can see from the pictures, is exquisite. If you are a fan of architecture or traditional craftsmanship, you will delight at just BEING in Taniya. This was almost a problem—I'm used to thinking of a hotel as a "crash pad" while exploring, and instead I wanted to spend hours and hours inside! Each morning was calm and peaceful: make a cup of green tea, then observe the way the light plays through the washi, the sound of water rushing by. I also particularly loved the bath; one of my favorite memories was enjoying it on a rainy, chilly night. We got home from dinner, I used the auto-fill function while I got ready for bed, then opened the window onto the courtyard and stepped in. Watching the moon through the rain, maple leaves, and steam curling up from the bath... it's like having your own personal onsen. Plus, each item in the villa was thoughtfully chosen, from the local sakes on offer in the fridge to the items provided in the bathroom to the super-soft pajamas. Even better were our hosts, who exemplified the Japanese concept of "omotenashi" (essentially, "hospitality" taken to its highest level). Well before arrival we were working with the Taniya concierge to make our plans happen (many thanks to Mahiro!). She handled making reservations at our desired restaurants and travel around town was provided as needed. Where she truly excelled was helping us troubleshoot our more ambitious ideas, such as: is there an open-air onsen near the Shinhotaka Ropeway with private baths? And how do we get there and back? The Kusakabe family were also gracious and friendly hosts, helping us along with the concierge and sharing their knowledge of Japan and Takayama plus their personal history—talking with them and touring the Folk Crafts Museum was a particular highlight, as many of the items on display are Kusakabe family heirlooms.

It was mind blowing. Amazing. Can’t believe such a delightful property. Once in a lifetime experience.

Fantastic guesthouse. Certainly the best i've ever stayed in. My family loved it. Beautifully appointed home. Host met us at the house and carefully explained everything. He went on to make a reservation for dinner for us and was always available to answer any questions for us during our stay. I only wish we could have stayed longer.

Featuring a shared lounge, Hostel Miyagawa by Murasaki Ryokan is located in the centre of Takayama, less than 1 km from Takayama Station. Cozy hostel similar to a ryokan. The staff speak English and the position is perfect in the city. Really suggest if you want a cozy and quite place to stay in a Japanese style
